Default Whats the Best tail servo for the 250?

So I have one and with the align tail servo(ds420) FF and BF the tail is solid, but If I try to flip or roll it the tail blows out and starts waging, so I'm thinking maybe its the servo.

Whats the best one to get?

I've tried quite a few, and I have to say in my experience it is hands down the MKS DS95i.... comes at a price though.

Bert Kammerer liked the DS3500 best a couple of years ago.

I'll bet he'd like the DS95i better today. It's almost twice as fast (.04 s vs. .07s), significantly more torque, dual bearings instead of single, metal gears not plastic, and yet weighs slightly less (metal gears are titanium=light!). Man, reading that last sentence makes me want one!

Can't go wrong with the DS95i, I'm using my 250 to learn flips rolls etc. Even with hard collective sloppy flips, the tail holds solid with the DS95i.

Hi,

Did you meant 5084mg or 8084mg ?

is 5084mg relatively big for the 250 ? I used to have one on my 450.

Please advise.

I just moved a DS3500 over to my 250. That is one bloody big lump of electromechanical stuff hanging back there!

DS95i is a great servo with a huge price tag. I fly 5084MG and for the price you can get it for - can not be beat, particularly for being able to handle 6 v. I have it on both of my 450's as well. Check Tom'sRC for best deals on Hitec servos.

Make sure you get that Spartan Quark gyro - it is the best gyro for 250 Rex. IMHO of course.

I have used the 290g, 3500g, and a bls257 on the tail of my 250. The 290g was trash and the 3500g was a good servo but it didnt last 50 flights, and I dont even fly that hard. The bls257 imo is the best servo I have tried so far.

What happened to it? You don't mean to say that the rigors of keeping the 250 tail under control did it in, do you?

No not at all, I know the 3500 has enough torque and speed to handle anything the 250 can throw at it. I chalk it up to having REALLY bad luck with JR servos. The 3500g worked great for a while. I was in love with the servo until it started twitching and locking over to one side. as soon as any force was put on the servo arm. It would go bonkers. So now I try and stay away from jr tail servos..

What is the BEC voltage you have? 3500 only works on 4.8v.
http://www.servodatabase.com/servo/jr/ds3500g

I have one, running on 5.5v BEC. I put a diode to drop the voltage. I use it more than 50 flights with no problem.
Could it be your BEC is to hight for this servo?

I dont think that was the problem, the mini jazz on my 250 is set at the default 5v.

How are you guys mounting the larger servos with four mounting points? The stock 250 servo mount only has one hole. Are you changing mounts or just mounting on two points? I was tempted to try a 9257 I have lying around, but was not sure how to mount it.

Thanks!

I have a Futaba S9650 lying around and im very tempted to use it.

ATM i have raised the delay to like maybe 80% in small heli mode but when i do flips my tail isnt where i left it when im upside down and im still too noob to start correcting it (at least i dont feel confident enough with a brand new heli).

Should i ?

I only use two mounting points to hold the larger tail servo in place. When my camera battery has enough juice I will post a pic of the bls257 on my 250..

Thanks Bob; that's good to know. I'll try out the 9257 before ordering the DS95i. A big difference, I know; but I'm still learning good orientation, so the 9257 might be enough for now.

Bob,

What diameter carbon fiber pushrod did you use and which ends? I've been wanting to do this upgrade for a while and installing a new tail servo is the right time.

Thanks for your continued input!

EDIT: Seek and ye shall find!

Here's at least one thread on the topic. I'm pretty sure I've got it from here! ;-)
