5.6 is fine. I've been running all of mine at 6 for past 2 years without an issue.

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a Goblin 700. Sadly I'm going to have to borrow the Torq servos and V-Bar from my beloved Gaui X5 to make this happen, but the X5 will be reborn down the road with a different setup.

Goblin 700 Yellow!
Flight Style: Big Air Sport, Learning 3D (Just managed my first pretty piro flips... on the sim).
FBL System: V-Bar Silverline (sorry X5)
Motor: Quantum 4530-500KV Goblin Edition unless anyone has a better suggestion.
Pinion: 22T (I believe that's stock now).
Target Headspeed(s): 1800-2100 perhaps?
ESC: HeliJive 120 HV
Governor: Jive or V-Bar
BEC: None
RX Pack: 2S... GensAce if I can
Cyclic Servos: Torq BL9180
Tail Servo: Torq BL9188
Main Blades: Stock
Tail Blades: Stock
Lipos: Unsure, would like to go with 2x GensAce 6S 5000mah but you know how that is...
Anything else: A bigger set of balls for my maiden flight

Always open to suggestions of course.

Very nice! I would however, recommend a Scorpion 4525-520 Ultimate over the Quantum. With those target head speeds Id say 20 or 21t pinion.

I'd recommend the RJX servos... also look into the SK540 FBL.

Be sure to follow this thread.. best build thread out there!... helped me so much... its the 770 but that doesn't matter.

Excellent. Thanks for the suggestions, aviator. Reading up on that Scorp motor now.

Thanks Slyster, but servos and FBL are about the only items that aren't open to change on this build, but only because I'll be harvesting them from my X5 to save a heap of money in the short term. Down the road all options are open. I also have a spare BeastX on hand but I'm thinking the V-Bar wins that race.

None-the-less, I appreciate the recommendations and will look into them a little more with future changes in mind.

Indeed, my fingers will be near a keyboard that day. Btw, any bullet points you're willing to offer on your recommendation of the scorp over the quantum?

i have tried the beast x and the v-bar silverline on the Goblin700, the v-bar is much more stable especially during strong winds. i m using scorpion 4525-520 ultimate and all i can say is awesome! just my personal opinion.

Ok, so to start let me back up a little. When I first got my Goblin 700, I had the Quantum 4530 motor. It felt "ok" but I would put it more in the category of the smaller 4525 Scoprion Ultimate motor. Once I put the Sorpion 4530 motor on, I could tell instantly the power and torque was extremely noticeable even to a novice like me.

Since the Quantum 4530 was closer in power to the Scorpion 4525 Ultimate, I decided to do a little comparison with the two using my Trex 700 that housed the Scorpion 4525. To do this test, I used the same battery, ESC and pinion. SInce the 4525 is a 520KV motor and the Quantum 4530 is a 500KV motor, using the same pinion I thought would be just fine. The only real differnce was the settings used in the Scorpion SBEC ESC. The Quantum used slightly different settings that I got from other members here. SInce KV numbers can differ from motor company and ESC used, these motors were very similar in "real KV" due to the fact the the RPM was within 25 of each other.

So this is what I found comparing the Quantum 4530-500 to the Scoprion 4525-520 Ultimate

Power/Torque - Almost identical, but the Scor felt like it had the edge there.
Flight time using Spyder 5300mah packs - Scorp 4:50 / Quantum 3:55 to get to 20% left in the packs doing some FFF and "light" 3D.

Weight: Scorp = 650 grams / Quantum 556 grams (from websites, did not weight them myself)

Windings - The Scorpion using a YY wind with a single strand of copper wire. The Quantum uses a bunch of multi strand wires in a Delta wind. Some controllers such as the Kontronik Jives I believe do NOT like the Delta wind. Maybe one of the motor experts can chime in. If you look at a lot of large motors like Scorpion 45XX 42XX series as well as Kontronik Pyro 700/800, they all use single strand YY wind. I only generally see multistrand/Delta wound on the little motors like in my 450.

Anyway, hope this helps!!! If you like serious power, you can go with the Scorpion 4530-540. However, make sure you're running a 160 or > ESC and good packs! I have one in my 700 now and it's insane. I also had a custom made Scorpion 4535-450 that I'm using for my Goblin 770. There's a picture of if somewhere in the forum here. They even put my name on it!! haha

Thanks very much for the detailed response and personal account with the two motors, Jason. Between this and what I've read elsewhere I'm feeling sold on the Scorp! I think I'll pull the trigger on a kit, motor and ESC this evening. Now onto figuring out the battery situation...

The quantum has tons of power when geared properly. To say one is better that the other w/o actual statistics doesn't work well.

What statistics? I'm saying first hand the Scorpion 4525-520 is more powerful than the Quantum 4530-500. I don't have any numbers, but numbers mean very little anyway. Both were properly geared with a 21T pinion. I'm not saying the quantum is a bad motor, one has to be more powerful and the Scorpion just had that little extra. I'm not talking night and day here.

I did also try the stock 22T pinion with both but neither motors seemed to do as well at the same RPM.

I was running 2175 RPM on both helis as well. Anything else below that would require a 20T pinion of which I never tried with either. Yes, any motor benefits from proper gearing.
