Default What is it? Hint - circa 1981...

I built this new in 1981... back before there was a Helifreak forum to ask questions about setup and things! I chased myself around the driveway with it in a hopping and skipping 4-12" hover many times... actually "flew" it once when I just decided to go for it... you can imagine the final result!!!

Know what it is???

IF you ever flew with any of this equipment, you ARE an old fart!!!

Bought the upgrade to CP, but joined the Army and never did the conversion...

Loved this radio...

lots of spare parts....

So.... do you know? did you guess??

I have the manual and the CP upgrade manual... I will post it if noone can guess...

American R/C Mantis.

I had one.

Yes, I am older than dirt...

"Everyone knows Heli Boys came with collective pitch from the factory!"

Not quite-the Heliboy came in several versions: Collective with Bell/Hiller steering (the Bell Hiller mod was in "Bag 13"), a later version that was sold without Bag 13 (Collective with Hiller Steering), and a fairly late and rare version with the "S" head which was fixed pitch. The "S" head is really different in that both blades flapped freely and independently. I had one on a HeliBaby and you could actually lift the two blades up and touch them together. Under centripetal force the blades stayed out.

I'll have new Mantis canopies and fan shrouds available for them in the near future.

Yepper I'm an old fart as well.. That was my first Heli, got mine in 1985 and it came in either fix or collective pitch. My cheap ass buddy got the fix pitch and I went all in... Mine flew much better. No gyro just a lot of mixing mechanics.....lol

Count me in also
Bought mine in 1985 and went to Germany where I met an Army Huey pilot who was flying Schluters. He got mine flying and someone walked up during its first flight and I sold it. My buddy took me to buy a Schluter helistar and I was hovering in a few weeks

Am slowly collecting all the old helis I have owned and the Mantis is one of two I still don't have.
