And, there it is as first mentioned in post #5494.

Glad you got it figured out. Happens to the best of us every once in a while. I had a FBL setting wrong and crashed my 450X on the very first lift off after building it up on the Lynx frame.

Fantastic you got it sorted.

Guaranteed you will not make the same sort of mistake again. Thank goodness it did not end in the dirt.

2 flights before sunset. Mostly at 3100rpm. Bumped up the deg/sec on aileron and noticed a huge improvment during aileron tic tocs or general aileron use. Interesting to think this started life as a 4503d flybar in 2011. Hope the frame never breaks. It's a great heli.

Built me a 450 cfx Using a 450x with a shagged out stock frame and a 360cfx airframe that was collecting dust on my wall. Now I can ditch the stock 450x frame, which is a pita to build and maintain.

Build details are in the 360cfx forum

Default It has been a while...

But, I finally had the time and desire to do something with my 450x. Purchased this V1 450x when the 300x and 450x were in the "closeout" stage for very good prices on both. Did lots of reading here and put about 6-8 flights of "aggressive hovering" on the stock 450x. It scared the crap outta me and was loud as hell. Stunt mode RPM hit a real annoying harmonic that hurt my ears. Reading that the stock servos were on borrowed time, I grounded it and started gathering the parts for an upgrade. I found the AR7200BX a PITA to setup on the 300x, so I pried the AR7200BX off the 450x and sold it while it still had some value. Purchased servos, ESC, motor, Lynx slant main gear and set of pinions, Lynx frame etc. Then bought a used 360CFX here...D'OH! 450x sat in storage for almost 2 years...

Lynx frame. MSH Brain FBL. E-Flite 450H motor. Castle Talon 35 ESC. Turnigy TGY-306G servos (KST 215 clones AFAIK). Lynx Slant main gear and 12t pinion. Lynx tail case. The rest is all the stock parts from the org. 450x.

Sooooo quiet and smooth! The tail had a nervous wiggle on the maiden that turning down the gain 10% took care of. Put 2 batteries through it in the front yard and wished that I had more charged packs. Power transition switching between Idle up speeds is like glass. Rescue pulls it straight up just like it is supposed to.

I clamped the frame to the work bench and used the Soko Heli tool with the virtual mainshaft option to setup the head and learned that I HAVE to redo both my 300x (not bad, but the rescue pulls to the right and forward) and my 360CFX 3-Blade which is a handful and has serious tail issues wiggling and not holding. The mains were in the grass last week with the nose pointed at me last time it flew. I still don't know how I saved it, but had to clean the grass stains off all three blades.

I soldered a RPM sensor into the ESC when I set it up and the cable for the Brain is already in place so I can setup the Brain governor, but the governor is the Talon is working perfectly.

Can't wait to get home from work today and fly this one some more.

Stock canopy for now. The Funso I had on the stock frame does not fit the Lynx frame with the battery in place. Does anyone know of or have a FG canopy that fits the Lynx frame that they want to part with?

I had to re-drill new mounting holes farther back on my Fusuno canopy go get it to fit.

I have cheap Hobby King Trex 450 canopies for my 450x.
Not at all designed for the purpose but they fit better, work better and are more durable than stock Blade canopies.

Default What did I do??

CRASHED!!!!!!!!! Just working on my orientations. I got brave and started FF from side to side. A gust of wind in the middle of my tail around and got dis -orientated. Guess I don't have to tell you the rest. Now waiting on parts.

We have certainly all been there. Sorry to hear the news, but you are on the right track with parts, and soon back in the air. What have saved me a lot of $$$ and parts, was the switch to an FBL with the "rescue" feature. If I flip the rescue switch before I am too close to the ground, it saves me no matter what orientation I am in. What an awesome advancement in FBL technology for pilots like me that are still learning the basics and working hard to improve and also not crash!

Good luck and speedy rebuild.

Steve

Default Parts on the way

Thanks, I've been flying planks for many years, so I know one day the light will come on and I will be a heli pilot soon. LOL

If you want to save some money pick up an older used version 1 Brain or Ikon. I have one on my 450X. It will give you rescue and even self-leveling if you want to use it.

Do it. All I had was AR7200BX units and I abandoned them all for the iKON. I even have a micro iKON in my 180CFX. It's an awesome FBL unit and the V2 with integrated Bluetooth and data logging is very nice.

If it were feasible, I'd put one in my 230S, as well.

Just run through the wizard setting it up and ask if you have questions. I'm sure you're familiar with computers and software. You'll enjoy it much more with the Ikon.
