Meet "the woman in red":

Light is not good enough anymore, the "UPS guy" came too late, so I'll "maiden" her tomorrow morning. Trying to make a good use of some leftover holidays since fall is approaching fast.

And saturday... heading to Alpine Heli Smackdown!!
By far the best looking 450x in my opinion!

I'll be more than happy if you "steal" my scheme

I used Dylon dye (it just happened to me to find it here in Italy, almost everybody else uses Rit dye):

Procedure is pretty easy.

You need a dedicated pot and wood spoon (no way to reuse for cooking, after this).

Warm (almost boil) enough water to fully cover the skids once you will put them in the pot. Leave a small fire running under the pot for the whole "cooking" period.

Add 30 grams (I think it's 30, anyway precise quantity is written in the instructions) of salt and the content of one "capsule" of dye.

I tied a loop of fishing line to one hole of each part to make it easier to fish them back from the pot one by one when needed.

The skids do not get coloured very strongly. Even leaving them one hour… they are still pretty light coloured. Tail blades and vertical fin are pretty much similar to each other, faster than the skids, while the horizontal fin is the one which got darker (in all colours I've done, green, red, yellow).

So I suggest do first the skids, then take them out, put the rest, and check each part every minute to fish them out once they get the same nuance as the skids. It'll need around 10 minutes.

When you fish a finished part, rinse it under the tap, hang somewhere and let dry.

Suggestion: protect the kitchen area where you are operating with newspapers or something to avoid dying the furniture. Very easy to drop stuff around. Unless you want your mother/girfriend/wife to kill you!

Good luck!

Let's see, I just wrote them asking what to do.
Who has my COCO66 one then?

I have dyed a lot of RC car rims. Different nylon or plastic absorb colour differently.

My experience is there's not much use in boiling very long. In stead take out, rinse in water, cool down. Then boil again for darker colour.

I wasn't a huge fan of those colors when I first saw that canopy but I have to say, it looks really good with everything else colored that way, too!

Thanks Rodney.
And I have to add that, as usual, in person it looks faaar better.

It's the only one I have with the "full black window" - which looks like the rear windows of my car - and I have to say that I like it more then the others.
