Wolf, the motor is a HK 2221-8. Cutting the canopy was to make the top of the canopy fit better. I'm not quiet sure about the motor temp. however, after a 4-5 min at100% throttle, the motor was just warm to touch. I think cutting it back does help with the cooling though

Ok had a closer look and I now can make out the golden HK plating . Mistaking the -8 for the H450 made me check out some specs there quite similar in size, design and KV . Makes me wonder who makes the H450 for eflite ? Wire type / windings, the finer details I can't find data for!
Your canopy mod has summertime about it.

My 450X in its latest dress. I really like this setup- 295 flights on it so far. MSH Brain, Scorpion 2221-8, Castle Ice Lite 50, TM1000 telemetry, 5065MG cyclic servos and DS95i tail servo, and aluminum where it needs it.

I may have mentioned before that I work my 450s pretty hard at times. Apparently now I have evidence. Somehow I managed to strip the tail drive gear in flight. Definitely a first for me - and I don't recommend it; without any power to the tail, that did not end well.

P.S. My assumption is that I had the belt too tight. This happened on the 3rd flight after a complete tear-down.

Hmmm can't really understand how the belt tension could be related. My guess is it cracked on a previous crash, then decided to cave in now...

I looked at every gear during the tear-down, tail drive gear was fine visually. It's possible that tooth was cracked, but that wouldn't entirely explain (hard to tell in the pic) how ground down all of the teeth were. Missing one tooth alone would have sounded funny but still should have held unless there was a counter force making it difficult to turn the belt.

Damage is repaired. I had to pair the remaining unbroken blade with an unbroken blade from a different crash. Balancing them required about 3 feet of electrical tape, which I'm guessing will impact stability so the tailspin cost me a set of blades - I had all the other parts (boom, main gear, feathering spindle) in my crash kit already.

Just get the tape on and it'll be good. I have a LOT of tape on one of my 300X blades, works just fine!

HH should OTOH try and sell sets that are perfectly balanced though

My Evel Kaneval custom job.
I still need to finish the canopy with clear coat but wanted to see how it looked.

Started out like this, all standard 450X...

Turned into this after parts delivery today.

I prefer to fly this in the sky, so going for a red canopy vs the stock blue was a no brainer.
Aluminium Tail Servo Mount and CF Tail Blades to stiffen up the rear end.
Changed AR7200BX tape to 3M 4011 previously.

Took her out, noticed the difference in the tail straight away. Rock solid and quick stop/starts.
Looks so much sexier too!

My 450X taking a break at the end of a busy flying session. Just installed an Eflite 450 motor with the Align 12T pinion per recommendations from here on HF. I have 10 flights on it since the mod and IU @ 85% is spot on. Thanks for all the help guys.
