Well, here it is, shorty after it's second flight...this thing flies so freakin steady it's amazing...I know it's just a bone stock 450x, but it's still awesome to me!

It's becoming hard to not think of this as "my little toy helicopter". I've found myself taking risks with it that I wouldn't have dreamed of doing several weeks ago.

I think it has something to do with having a much larger and more expensive helicopter.

It is really nice how inexpensive most crashes with the 450X are, for sure.

I like those canopies. I have that design, but in yellow, on my 6HV.

Sometimes it makes you (read: me) a little too overconfident. Today I lost orientation inverted @ 300ft out or so and had to hit TH to avoid putting it down on someone's house. Taco'd my head assembly, so I think I'll be ordering the B450X conversion kit from Ampdraw and do the aluminum upgrade at the same time as part of my repair.

Can't even get the blade grips off my pretzeled feathering shaft, and lost the pitch linkages (that were out of stock last time I ordered a bunch of spares, so I need those too). I figure...I need the spares and I'll be rebuilding the head anyway, so...

Ouch, thats pretty bad. My last crash def bent the spindle that hard, but luckily one side was bent just enough that I could pull the grip apart. Good luck getting that out! By the looks of it you would need a new hub anyway, so good thing you are getting the conversion kit.

Here is mine at the end of the night Saturday:

Fast backwards flight about a foot off the ground. I went to flip it over backwards into an inverted hover and I planted the tail in the ground. It bounced about 3 feet up, I hit throttle hold, and it landed fairly soft upside down.

Broke blades, cyclic servo gears, slight bend in tail boom, slight bend in main shaft, stripped main gear.

Other than that, it took it pretty good.

The only thing I need is main shaft and feathering spindle.. Honesty, I'm just changing the feathering spindle because I'm anal, it still looks perfectly straight. Any time I have to replace blades I replace the spindle too.

I'm patient.. I have other helis to fly. If I get impatient I have 450x fbl conversion kits at the store I could always borrow a main shaft out of. :p

Not sure what happened. But it wasn't good. I'm not sure if I dumb thumbed it or had mechanical / electronic failure. It was in a very low inverted hover, and then everything went black. When I awoke from my confused, angry, and depressed sleep walk of shame, I found the canopy and battery 15' away from the heli. Many broken parts.

Ampdraw here I come!!

I like the way you resolved the issue! Guess the crashed bird is a supply of parts now - the ones that don't break.

Crashes suck but they are an integral part of this hobby.

Seen some of your videos - you fly really well.

Frankly, jchandler's crash does not look that bad. I would have just purchased the broken parts. Main blades obviously, but most likely bent boom, main shaft, feathering shaft, main gear, horizontal stabilizer, boom supports, etc. The big ticket items seem intact like the ESC, AR7200X, and upgraded motor. Unless he is planning on converting the B450 3D into FBL with the spare parts, the savings could be better spent in a new transmitter, and save the DX6 to use with the simulator. Just a thought.

I'm not adding it up. My time is valuable and my wife would rather me buy one than spend the time on this one. I totally agree with her

Default Aluminium bits...

Upgraded a few parts to aluminium - just because I liked the look. Probably just in my head but it handles even better now.

I'll do the rest of the tail and the swashplate one day.
