Default Brushless Motor fault? how do you know?

I have a scorpoin 2221-6 in my 450 size helicopter and for some strange reason the motor will cause the esc to go into overload every now and then without any reason. Now i am not sure its the motor, but i changed the ESC and the motor is now the culprit. I dont know if its related, but sometimes the motor becomes stiff when its free turning (with no power). This problem is very intermittent. It can fly 10 times no problem, then suddenly no power mid flight and the ESC is beeping indicating power failure. I had a 60 amp scorpion commander, then i changed to a 54 amp castle thunder bird. I love the power but i cant handle the crashes due to power failure. How do you know when your brushless motor is failing?

I found the problem. It was the hobbyking UBEC.dropping power to the FBL unit and servos which would then stop the motor.. Since changing the UBEC, my issues have disappeared.
