I bet you will find the Swift a lot easier to fly then your 450's simply because their size and head design makes them much more stable in winds while keeping them very agile. The added size also makes them nuch easier to see and keep oriented then the smaller 450's. I also bet the all up cost, heli, radio, servos, gyro and power system was not all that much more then decking out a good 450? And all the servos etc. can later be used in other big helis.

Thanks Mike! Thanks MotorRotor!
I used Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10. On the heli I stuck one of those #11 HD Key Chain Cameras on the bottom of the canopy. For me this heli has an approximate replacement cost of 2x over my 450s. The NX airframe cost the same as a Mini-Titan airframe ($130) - it's the batteries, blades, motor, servos, Rx & voltage regulator that cost more than those on my 450s. I'm totally happy with the NX - it flies great and I love how easy it is to see, and it sounds awesome. I'm almost ready for some inverted flight, just a bit nervous all over now because of the $$, but I realize it could have cost much more had I gone the Align/Mikado/Thunder Tiger route. -John Last edited by FR4-Pilot; 06-06-2012 at 11:15 PM.. |

Relative to your radio gear on your 450. Does it use a different TX then the one you are using on your Swift? Ditto for gyro?
Once you are ready for something even bigger and better, you can move up to the new Radikal E640. They are a big jump up from the great little Swift NX. Now you will be into a heli with C/F frames, CNC machined rotor head & tail rotor, torque tube drive etc. And if you bought good gear for you Swift, they could all be transferred to the E640. Also, you will find you can also use the same battery packs on the E640, only now you would use 2 packs in series. e.g, If you are using 4S packs on your NX, then you can use 610 mm blades and configure it for use with 8S power (2 x 4S packs) or if you are using 5S packs then do the same with 620mm blades and configure for use with 10S power (2 x 5S packs). Ditto if you are using 6S packs, then use 640mm blades and configure for use with 12S power (2 x 6S packs)

Thanks for the info ... That E640 does look nice
The Tx is a Spektrum DX6i for all 4 of my 400/450s and the Swift NX. I'm using a Futaba GY401 on the NX and on two of the 400/450s. I'm using a Spartan Quark and Hitec HG-5000 on the other two 400/450s. On the NX: Century 600+ 1110kV with 9T Century Electron 80/100A ESC HobbyWing 8/15A UBEC Spektrum AR7000 Rx & Satellite Hitec HS-625MG Cyclics Futaba S9254 Tail Futaba GY401 Gyro Edge 523mm CF main blades KBDD tail blades Metal motor mount Aluminum bottom support plate (from Swift) Hyperion 6S 3300mAh 35C Hyperion 2S 2100mAh 25C Monster Swimming Pool Noodle (Pontoons) NormThrottle: 0-70-75-80-85 NormPitch: 35-50-65-80-95 IdleUpThrottle: 85-82.5-80-82.5-85 IdleUpPitch: 0-25-50-75-100 I really like the NX - Today I tried some inverted flight - yep she does that too This heli is a keeper. I cut two holes in the front of the canopy for air flow to cool things in there. Maybe next year (after I've paid for all of this stuff) an even bigger heli can join the fleet -John [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqir1N47jeU&feature=player_profilepage[/ame] http://fr4pilot-swiftnx550.blogspot.com/ Last edited by FR4-Pilot; 06-12-2012 at 03:27 PM.. |

Flight 9
Thanks Ngin!
Took her to a bigger field today in Naperville, IL. Thanks to the PropMasters for letting me fly for a few minutes I think the gyro gain is a little too high. While no visible tail wagging can be seen, you can hear in the video, multiple times, some pulsing thrust sounds right after a hard turn or inverted maneuver. I have a GY401 and it's set at 90% - I might back it off to 85% as I don't remember those sounds at that setting ... Swift NX 550 - Flights 13 & 14 - Big High Loops
Got to fly all of my CP helis today - the Blade 400 (with new DS76T tail servo - works great), all 3 Mini-Titans (which fly awesomely - even the one with 100+ flights on it), and the new Swift NX 550 of course (only heli in this video). Put the video camera on the NX with some Zeal tape - seems to work okay. Also used Zeal tape on the GY401. This heli really moves ! (2 vids back to back)
2000-2200 Head Speed. Gary tach'd the RPMs at 2000 at the end of my first flight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esOOVi6CbNo&feature=player_detailpage[/ame] -John |

Nice vids fr4. Funny you and I always end up in the same forums. First with my b400, then the mini titan, and now century. Good to see your still flying :-)

Hey you're right - that's very interesting Digger ... looks like we have the same taste in helis, or at least heli manufacturers. Thanks for watching the vids.
It'd be neat to know which forum we'll be in next [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQQPmBoL1DI[/ame] Last edited by FR4-Pilot; 06-29-2012 at 12:21 AM.. |

Got to fly during lunch and after work this week. Had a couple of O-Sh?t moments at the top of a few loops - the heli went much higher than I anticipated. On the positive side, she's easy to see when she's really high up

I swapped cameras - put the #11 KeyChain cam (1280x720) on my hat, and put the Sony Bloggie (1920x1080) on the heli via a big piece of green Zeal Tape. A couple of nice-n-easy flights during our company picnic today

Not a 550 NX, but a Century 600 in a scale fuselage:

John, we really gotta stop looking at the same manufacturers for our models. Once i get my century that will be 3 from the same brands for us. Lol

I've got a Swift NX, Radikal E640 & Radikal G30. The way the kits go together and the reasonable prices for good quality keep me coming back for more. --------------------------------- Please excuse me if my post looks like it was typed by a teenager. It was sent from my phone.

FR4 and i started out in the B400 forum. He answered alot of my questions when i started. Then the mini titans, and now a swift for him and either a g20 or g30 for me. If i can stop myself from ordering from dennis next month then it will probably be the g30. That is so long as my wife leaves my heli fund alone when she tells me to go get a new snowblower lol. Luckily she supports this hobby and even bought me my msr, mcpx, b400, and half of my mini titan.
She did make an attempt to video the mini titan one day. I had to put it on youtube just because of the ,"i think i lost you again" comments. If you want to check out the not so pro guy flying and the not good camera woman just search for jfenton124 on youtube. Cheers Sent from my GT-S5660M using Tapatalk 2

So far I really like Century helis. Funny - we were discussing running a clutch on electric helis when I shot that vid. Something about having to stay above a certain RPM otherwise the clutch disengages, and the pilot wanted a lower headspeed on that scale Ecureuil. BTW - that scale heli was not mine - it belongs to another helpful guy at the field, who's a great pilot, both in RC and in real life
I might build up another NX (got a bunch of spare parts, just need a few more) over the winter. We'll see how the $$ goes ... I just wonder what's going on with Century though - they discontinued my 80/100A ESC, my 1100kV motor, and the metal upgrade tail case, and they never respond to my emails. Makes me wonder cause they won't break radio silence ... Sorry to read about your heli probs Karl - I lurk once in a while over on rctodayshow.com. Hope you get her sorted real soon. Digger I really liked your (or your wife's) video. I was waiting for her to say something when you were doing those pitch pumps at the end - I could feel her frustration trying to follow you. Nice inverted, backward loops, etc. Last edited by FR4-Pilot; 08-24-2012 at 08:47 PM.. |

My LHS owner is on vacation until Tuesday, so I haven't been able to pick up the parts I need to get the swift running. Hoping to maiden the E640 this weekend. I've got some more stuff going on with the G30 before it's ready to get running, though. Maybe for the long weekend if I'm really lucky. The RCTodayShow group is awesome. That's my favorite place to hang out. It's not that active compared to the bigger forums, but it's a good group of guys.

I would suggest that when you send them an e-mail that you ask your question to Earl or Paul.
