Hot servo

I replaced the gears in my stock servos and all was fine until I went to remove the damaged gears in the elevator servo. When I pulled up on the gears the small metal shaft came out with them (not the first one with the bearing). I put it back in with new gears and now the servo is getting so hot that I can barely touch it. Don't want to take any chances so I ordered a new one. My question is, since I'm replaceing it with the same stock servo do I need to do any kind of setup other than recentering the servo.

Yes. You need to do the full setup again, to be on the safe side. (Really, it takes 15 minutes from start to end once you've done it a few times)

Thanks Talesin, I'm not sure why I feel so intimidated by this thing. After doing it once it will probably be a breeze.

It really looks more intimidating than it actually is. By the third run-through, you won't remember what you were afraid of, and just go through now and then to try out new settings (like 13 or 14 degrees max/min pitch instead of the stock 12.. which results in more bogging and MUCH twitchier cyclic response by the way).

I should do a video at some point of setting up the whole thing from scratch.

I keep mine (and all my other manuals) on a Nook Color. Incredibly handy to have it right there. Apparently the page with the piro optimization setting is screwed up on formatting though, but thankfully it's just a two-position setting and easy to remember as it's the last step.

And still considering doing the vid. Just have to figure out a backdrop, tripod and camera. Otherwise I'll just be recording with my 808 keychain cams, which stinks.
