Default Pl6 only 10 amps?

Hi,

noob question here.

I am trying to charge 6 3amp 6 s batts, I select accurate charge, Say yes I am doing parallel, then I select "6p" and it tells me the maximum current I am allowed to use is 10 amps. Don't I need 3*6 = 18 amps? How come it dosn't let me select high enough...

Thanks.,

Jerry

BTW I am using a 24v 600 watt psu

Hi:

For safety reasons, most presets are limited to 10A current. You need to use one of the presets with "High Power" in the name. These allow charge/discharge rates to 40A.

P.S. Don't forget to set the input current limit of the PowerLab to protect your power supply. Check Smart Power Management setup beginning page 9 of the user guide:

Hi Jerry. Based on your power supply specs, I estimate that you will only be able to get approximately 21 amps output charging 6s packs. As Tim said, but sure to set your power supply limits before attempting high wattage charging. The default of 25 amps is probably pretty close to the max output of a 24v 600 watt supply. Double check your power supply specs and set the Powerlab input current limit accordingly.

To get more your Powerlab6, a 30v 40 amp supply would be ideal. But as those are hard to come by, a 24v 40 amp supply will still give you close to the maximum output.

Hi, guys, I did already have my power supply limit set, I set it to 24A just to be safe.

I see the high power option, but will this option still balance charge my packs? It dosn't say it will do the accurate charge thing.

It will since the PL6 will only charge 1s and 2s packs with no balancing.. I remember that from the manual... it's a big manual.. but read it.

I have very little spare time, due to school, so my reading of the manual was a little sparse.

Thanks fo the help,
Jerry

Hi:

Will the High Power preset balance your batteries? Yes. Is the High Power Preset as accurate as the Accurate Charge preset when it comes to balancing? No. It is as accurate as the Faster Charge preset because it is built using the same parameters. You can get accurate balancing and high power, but you have to pull in the library preset called "LiPo Generic High P Accurate". But in my opinion, if you're charging at high rates, the extra 1-2% this preset might buy you over the normal High Power preset is not worth the extra 10-15 minutes it will require to charge your battery. That last 1-2% of capacity doesn't really buy you more than 30 seconds or so in the air, and charging to less than 100% capacity is actually a good thing for your LiPo's.
