any thoughts ??? even if os waranties it i dont know if i want another OS.
never liked OS but did what the LHS told me to do.(not that im blaming them)
And yes I have had over 50 nitro motors and never one with a hole in the top of the piston after 8 tankes

I can only think of one reason why there's a hole in the top of that piston, and if you've had 50 nitro motors, you do too... A 55 or a 57 won't change that...

It doesn't have to be bogging to be too lean.

I agree, and I learned that first hand this spring on my 2nd heli engine. You gotta watch those temps with not only your ears, eyes, fingers (on the backplate) and a temp probe, but ALL of those things to get the most horsepower while keeping them from burning up.

P.S. Thanks about the umbrella - looking for a biomedical job in experimental life extension?

if you got a hole in your piston...it's your fault. Sorry to sound callus but I'm in the same boat...so I'm not just pointing fingers. Just went through 2 in less than a gallon. Why? Because I'm a dumb A*&. now that I think about it, the first lasted almost 2 gallons but still...my fault. The other was about 4 tanks.

Either you got just a junk piston or you got it lean. Maybe a hole/crack in a line or fitting, loose muffler, crap in the filter or carb, not broken in properly, bad settings- didn't change for the weather (temp, humidity, pressure) though I doubt the last would be enough to make that much of a difference.

On one of mine I was doing collective punches and had a screw back out on the muffler... well loss of pressure can cause a lean situation and I didn't know enough about nitros to hear it...my fault.

this last one was me...had it one turn out (thought it was 1.5) and was adjusting the low mix...a little lean. just hovering but here too...my fault. got distracted when setting up the carb and never checked it....

got a 3rd one that went lean...again, my fault. think it's a loose muffler here too. Don't know...got lucky on this one.

OS engines are great, actually very durable...less a lean situation. don't give up on that 50 just yet. Those are fantastic motors and for the price you can get a used one, you just can't beat it.

Yes I never said it wasnt my fault

but after looking closer at the motor im just going to clean it out and change the piston. everything else looks good

I have had tons of 2 cycle motors and nitro motors run lean in my life but never had this happen so quickly.
And yes it was my pipe that came loose.
my question was would the Align 50 pipe work with the Novarossi 57????

one good thing that came out of this is i did my first succsesfull Auto down

bashing of head against wall....yep, sounds like me every day.

Just chalk all the stuff that happens to "going to school". If all the crap the goes on is a learning experience then it's not that bad. What sucks is when we don't learn from it.

as irritated as I was when the engine went. I've learned quite a bit.

I now know what an engine going lean sounds like, how to work break-in, how to start tuning...don't know fine tuning yet, HOW TO CHANGE A PISTON AND RING, how to change bearings-(only go with SS bearings here), starting to learn collective management (I fly with no gov.)

so what if it takes me another year to get the hang of it. I'm in this hobby for life.

To answer your question... technically it might work but you'll be choking the crap out of the engine. An Align 50 pipe even chokes a RL53 motor. They're great pipes for the 50 but if you want to get the correct amount of power from a larger motor then get the appropriate pipe.
