Default WHICH GYRO...

Hey, after having no luck with my last post and countless efforts trying to fix the hk401b gyro correcting for small yaw inputs from me(holds heading really good tho...just too good) thinking ill bite the bullet and get a new gyro.. I have a Belt CP V2 with standard tx and servos. But was thinking when i outgrow this heli maybe i should get a servo to future proof myself when i move up? eg with 3d capability?
Ideas atm GP750, gy401, gy520, kds820, dectrum gy48v...others? positives, negatives?
Ideally the cheaper that can do all i want the better. But had enough of gyros not working like they should.
thanks in advance!

I'm only a sport flyer; I like fast forward flight and loops. I've flown a cheapie, and a futaba 401 which was good. I put a quark on my furion 6 and it is most impressive. In "heading hold" mode the tail is locked; at least I am unable to budge it with my ability. Also 10 mph wind doesn't phase it.

to best gyros are spartan quark and futaba gy520 or futaba gy701

Spartan is having a 50% sale on their quark gyros. Best deal out there.

Single axis.. Spartan Quark.. Hands down, great gyro..

I've heard some guys buying the Tarrot YXZ (I think that is what it's called, maybe xyz, or zyx..) In any event, it's a FBL gyro that supposedly works very well, and you can buy it for less than a quark and only use the tail gyro portion of it for now until you outgrow that heli and go flybarless with something in the future..

Don't forget that the tail servo is also key for a solid rudder. When I got back to the hobby some 4 years ago I started using the GY401/S9254 and worked flawlessly for hundreds and hundreds of flights. Finished using Quark or GY520 and both worked perfect.

The best tail I've ever had is with my current Futaba GY 520 and Futaba S9257. That's on my EXI 450.

The Hk 401 B worked well for me too with a clone 9257 servo. You have to set it up in rate or normal mode for it to work right. Which means you add about 7 or 8 degrees of right trim on the rudder linkage with the servo centered In rate mode set to about 30 on the transmitter. Hover it and see if you have any right or left tail drifting. If you find you need more right rudder you adjust the linkage on the rod, not the radio trim or sub trim and try again until you get it trimmed perfectly.

Here is a good setup link to a Futaba Gy 401.

I like the GY520, then the Spartan, then the GY401.

I have not tried the GY701.

I'm all FBL now...
But was VERY impressed with the gy520 on my 450, and later on my 600.
Solid hold. Consistent piro rate. Firm, but not harsh stops. No overshoot. Very gain setting tolerant setup. Both helis.

I have a Spartan DS760 I will sell ya for cheap! It is running the newest firmware so it's pretty much the same thing as the quark just not as small. I have recently went FBL

The two best gyro's I've used on a FB'd heli, ( I have 5 of them now..) Is either the Quark, or the older, DS760....both ROCK solid no matter what you throw at it, the Quark is at a GREAT price right now.. and you can pick up the DS760 for almost nothing these days.. ( I STILL fly the DS760 on 2 birds..even though I have two brand new Quarks in my inventory.. just waiting...) IMHO.. the DS760 is the best gyro buy out there right now.. the Quark is definitly second....the GY750 is a fantastic gyro.. but you will pay for it.. unless your gonna be throwing it around like Tareq... save the money for spares and buy the DS760. I also found the DS760 will tolerate slight vibes better then the Quark and the GY750...

Hey everyone thanks heaps for the replys, Ill go with either the DS760, Quark, or GY520 depending on what price i can get or maybe able to get a cheap one somewhere doesnt seem to much between them esp with my skills. Otherwise that 50% off deal looks pretty good on the Quark. Looking forward to having a tail more solid, ill get a new servo at the same time. Did some research on the Tarrot YXZ, seems to be a bit mixed, definately not as good as the other 3, it would be good to have the ability to go FBL one day tho. I guess when i finish with my belt ill get another rtf kit. Thanks again!

absolutely
edit: many members here are FBL and sell the used gyros for half price.
