That is an AWESOME beauty of a FBL rotorhead! Can't wait for you to let us know how it flies!

Thanks Scott! If all goes well she will be maidened on Sunday. All I got left is setting up the tail. The i2 head is pretty trick, the grip links have fine thread on one side and coarse on the other. I was able to get exact 0.0 pitch...instead of -0.4 or +0.3 (like I get with other fbl heads)....that annoys the crap out of me. It won't be a powerhouse on a 6s, but it should fly damn smooth.

I would recommend replacing the stock canopy mounts with the thumbscrew type. I've been using the Lynxheli ones on my 500 and 550, they work well and aren't too expensive. You can also buy extra sets of screws if you have more than one canopy.

That was not my experience experience, I bound each separately and both worked on g31.

Same here. I bound two DSMX satellites separately on an AR8000, then plugged them up to the Robird. Works great!

Just a quick update, I converted my G31 over to a DSMX satellite using a 6210 to bind. Really like the governor feature, I've been tweaking it to get it as steady as possible. Between the governor and extra power of the new motor, it's really feeling locked in. The vibration analysis has been a great tool, and a source of endless OCD tweaking.

I tried the gov on my YEP equipped 500. I coyldnt get it to do right. For some reason its been doing funky stuff lately. I ended up disabling the RoGov and "tried" going back to my YEP's gov. For some reason the headspeed is uber high compared to before..even with the same TC. I think its all esc related though.

The Raptor 50 is now in the process of conversion to FBL with a Robird G31!

The Compass head is installed.

I have to mount the Robird and perform the setup. The ball spacing on the servo arms will probably have to be reset (closer to the center of the arm).

I am also going to upgrade the voltage regulator, replace the battery, and redo all of the fuel lines (internal fuel lines and battery were last replaced in 2010).

I done something real stupid last weekend..I installed a voltage reg on my 600 and plugged one if the two outputs into the RS/PitGainAx port on the Robird.

Yep, its now a paperweight.

I always ran full rx's until my recent switch to Futaba..so I totally forgot about NOT powering that port.

Lesson learned:rolleyes:

Dang, that sucks! And it double-sucks because the Robird is too light to make a decent paperweight!

LOL! Yup!

I'm gonna experiment with it. Gonna look at incorporating a microdeans into the side, soldered to the board. That way I can run the higher amperage than the servo leads limit (5a). That's the whole idea behind the two outputs on bigger bec's and regs. Of course, the tail bus would have to be internally jumped..but that's standard practice these days anyways.

Speaking of that, I always use a short break away extension on the end of USB cables now because I have a tendency to forget to unplug USB devices when I walk away from the PC with them. This way the 10cm extension just pops off the mini USB plug on the end of the cable without damaging the plug on the device.

Good idea, Ive left mine tethered a few times as well.

I fixed my data port fascination..lol
I stuck blank plugs back in all of them. No more dead birds for me

Good to see your starting your Raptor conversion! Which Compass head are you using, the Trac-x? Should be great. Was running their FB head before I switched mine to the TT FBL head. Have fun with it.

airbasher,

"Good to see your starting your Raptor conversion! Which Compass head are you using, the Trac-x?"

Done and test hovered!

I used a Compass 6HV head with TracX Drive Tubes (they are 5mm longer than the 6HV Drive Tubes which made them the correct length for the Raptor 50 without modifying anything.

"Should be great. Was running their FB head before I switched mine to the TT FBL head. Have fun with it""

Looking forward to having lots of fun with it!

Default Tail not holding

Tarot 450 Pro DFC. When I spool up I lose the tail hold when the head speed reaches a certain point. Seams to happen earlier in heading hold mode. Any suggestions on where to start? Tx is a Turnigy 9x running er9x firmware modded with a module from a DX-4e. Using a single JR sat. More details about the heli can be found here.

Default Gains don't do much

I've just set up the Robird G31 on my HK 450 Pro and it flies pretty well, but the gains do not seem to do much.

The heli seems to fly the same whether I have the gains set to +100 or -100.

I use remote gains from the Tx and adjust Aileron and Elevator to the same value. I think the remote gains are working because I can see the 'gain' channels bars moving in the Setup Screen of the PC application SW.

I would expect the heli to wander around more at low gains, and be pretty 'tight' at high gains. It seems to feel about the same as my flybar version of the same heli. I was hoping it would 'wander' less with the Robird.

Is this normal or do I have a defective unit?

I have HK MD922 digital servos on Cyclic running at 333Hz. They are pretty fast (0.09sec for 60deg).

The rates & agility are set to the "sport' button values (rate = 24, Agility = 1500).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew
