Default High-visibility blades?

hey guys,

Finding the 250 hard to fly with the stock white CF blades on overcast days - the rotor disk is pretty much white against white.

I was looking for some nice bright orange or red blades, but can't find any colored main blades anywhere! Can only find tail blades. Can anyone recommend a brand or dealer?

cheers

Why not paint the stock blades with a neon paint or bright color of your choice?

I don't see why you can't, just apply the paint in light coats, check the balance after painting...

Great and simple idea! I have the same issue. Just ordered fluorescent orange spray paint

Thanks for the idea.. Gave it a whirl, the spray paint seemed to stick to the stock blades okay. One thing I learnt: on a very hot day don't leave your freshly painted blades in the sun, or you'll get big fat bubbles

Default Painting blades

The white blades are very hard to see on my 250, so I would like to paint them as well. Are there any suggestions on which type of paint to use, and how many coats? Or is it better to simply buy colored blades instead?

Thanks!

Good idea! I'll try dying them. Looks like the local Fred Meyer should sell RIT dyes. Is powder or liquid better? And will it work on the carbon fiber blades too? Or only the older plastic ones?

Thanks!

only on plastic, I have only used powder, but both should work. 30 mins should be enough. I tried gear and skids but it didn't take, to smooth or to shiny but works great on blades,

Sharpie works OK. A little hard to do without streaks. Eventually wears off. I only do the leading edge for tracking tuning. Now I am trying Testors model paint

Fluorescent orange spray paint over the white parts of the Align CF blades (only 250 blades worth using IMHO) works very well and gives you that cool colored ring effect. Just mask off the area with masking tape, sand lightly to give the blade some texture for the paint to adhere too, and spray on a couple of coats. It only takes a few minutes and does help with visibility.

A fluorescent orange canopy and boom help even more.

And don't forget to accessorize with KBDD 40 mm fluorescent orange tail blades.

I used this "Ultra-thin Prismatic Sticker Sheet"

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11338

you might be able to get something similar locally.

I will paste them as strip on the blade and even flying in the day or evening with reasonable light, it will reflect the light to form a shining strips.

Check it out.

If you're talking a holographic sort of vinyl, i've thought about it a lot but it only reflects in certain angles of light

That has been my experience. It looks great when you get the effect, but you only see the effect at certain angles.

Holo is IMO good as just a small strip on the outside for a nice flashy disk every once in a while while you're flying, but a solid bright color should be used for the majority of the blade surface

Definitely flashier than the black electrical tape I have on there now for blade balancing.

Why don't manufacturers color their blades like KBDD? All of the most popular blades have white tips, which is a problem on overcast days - completely blends in with the clouds.

Try the lynx 210mm plastic orange blades for the oxy 2. Fantastic for visability.

There is also the lynx 215mm carbon blades.

Just to avoid confusion, the Lynx 215 carbons are Zeal. New airfoil and new color scheme (black with white tip.) More places are starting to carry them.

I tried the 190mm and 210. They don't fit in stock 250 blade grip. Are you modifying the blade root or the grip?
