No. Go to the Gyro menu on your Dx6i. Set up on of the numbers to 40 (that will be rate mode), the other to 60 (that will be HH). If you need more rate mode gain, go from 40 to 35. If you need more HH gain, go from 60 to 65.

I am having a problem with my ZYX. I can't get my gyro to initialize. When I plug it in all 3 lights come on then they flash and then I get a RED flashing light. I can't seem to get around this red light. I followed this manual http://fbl.net.nz/files/fblmanual.pdf to program it but I still get a red flashing light. I am starting to think I have a dud.

Red flashing light is an error code for "Initialization error". It probably means you are not keeping the gyro still during the initialization. After you plug in the battery quickly let the gyro/heli rest on the ground. Do not touch or move the gyro until it finishes the initialization procedure signaled by a twitch of the tail servo.

I have been keeping it still. I don't have my servos plugged in, I just have it plugged into the RX. It is still flashing red

I was able to upgrade the firmware and now it flashes blue and the software still wont recognize it and it won't take any stick inputs.

Stupid question, but your tx is connected to the rx, and rx is plugged into the zyx, right? Just because the zyx needs to see the tx to connect, iirc. I know I had some trouble with mine like that at first, but can't remember.

I seem to remember the tail servo MUST be connected for the zyx to initialise

Nope no servos need to be connected, it only needs a valid TX signal to initialize.

After 2 years of trying I've come to the conclusion that the CX-3X1000 gyro will not work on the 250.

What sucks is the cyclic is great. I would think that the tail would be the least of my problems since there are $10 gyros that can do the job well. I wanna install a separate G401B gyro just for the tail

Tails on 250's are notoriously difficult to tune. The problem is they have too much authority (i.e. mechanical gain). Possible solutions include eliminating all slop, getting a super high end tail servo, limiting tail pitch throw to less than what's max possible mechanically (from the gyro settings), and/or using shorter tail blades.

Thanks. I'll try all of that.

- I have very little slop on the tail
- I'll definitely get a better tail servo
- So you're saying lessen my pitch limits?

I have another question. I hovered in rate mode to get the perfect pitch link length but when I went back to HH the heli was spinning right. I had way too much + pitch. Should I set the gain low when I'm hovering in RM? What's a good setting?

#1 yes, lessen the tail pitch limits bit by bit to cut back on the max tail authority.

#2 tuning in RM - make sure you've got pitch precompensation off when you do this, otherwise it's gonna be too far off. OTT, don't fuss with this too much, it's only worth getting it close, doesn't have to be spot on perfect.

Hi Guys,
I haven't seen an answer to a possibly silly question, does the ZYX and heli need to be on level ground for takeoff once setup properly on the bench? I'm completely new to the FBL scene, but have finally decided to give it a try after flying flybarred helis for a few years. With those the gyro needs to be still while it initializes, and it made me wonder if the FBL needs to initialize on level ground before taking off. Most of my flying locations are a little rough around edges which doesn't matter with the flybar, just add power and cyclic as needed
At any rate all the parts have arrived and I plan the build this weekend after reading forums like mad the last few nights.

Thanks all for any input.

Nope, the ground level makes no difference. In fact, I keep my 450 on its side when I plug in the pack and wait for the gyro to initialize. Also for take-off, ground level is inconsequential.

Default Any suggestions

Hello Dr. M and Mike,

Any suggestions on the 3X1000 on the 500, or just keep same settings as the 450's?

It is almost ready

kr,
Dave
