Default OS GT15HZ Motor Arrives - Yea!

Folks - received my new GT15HZ motor today - wow, it's bigger than i thought..
Hope it fits in a t-rex700... eeek

Blew all my money on this and a spartan vortex so i'll need a while to save for the t-rex700 parts i need and servos ,etc

Meanwhile - here are some pics for you to drool over..

PS: Not sure what the large screw thing is at the back of the cylinder head yet ???

I got mine from japan where it's on special - took 3.5 days to arrive.. wow!
Was $100 approx cheaper than infinity-hobby - posted..

I emailed infinity-hobby to see if they price matched - no reply, very disappointing seeing i purchase a lot from them.. I didn't think they could match the price but a reply would have been nice!

I got the powerboost pipe version - came with motor, cdi unit, pipe and some fittings like deflector, gasket and screws... and even carbie servo arm..

Very nice Jock. Cant wait for a video. I wonder if this engine can be modified like our big Zenoah engines.

The issue is - it came with a 4 page leaflet manual - but it's all in japanese - Doh!

Does anyone know the break-in oil mix for this engine and normal running mixture
or Does anyone have a link to an english manual or can scan and post an english version ?

yeah, pre-mix is 25:1. So far I have only run it with gasoline however I suspect it will tolerate alternatives

the original requirement was for Klotz however I've been running with Honda HP-2 so again I suspect any of the quality air cooled pre-mix oils will be fine

you might want to try setting the needles initially as:
L = 1.5 turns from closed
H = 2 turns from closed

DISCLAIMER: These were the settings on the prototype motor, which used a Walbro carburetor stamped as a WT1054. If I'm reading it correctly on your photo thats a WT1057. I don't know the differences.

Proceed with caution. It does tune more like a glow motor than a typical gasoline motor however it is just as intolerant of overly lean conditions.

make sure the plug cap is fully seated, otherwise the ignition will back flow through your electronics and cause some surprises (wonder how I know that?)

the spark plug is 14mm, the normal plug wrenches are too big

I completely removed the choke mechanism so that there is less interference with the cooling shroud

the carburetor is reversible if you run into cooling fan clearance problems

If you have a way to check temps, keep it under 200 degrees F measured on the lower cylinder head fins

it appears to favor gear ratios in the +8:1 range for 680/690mm blades

Perdy.

You do not have a 91 nitro motor laying around to put it next to do you? From the pics. it does not look much bigger other than the carb.

I think we will soon know the answer, but keep in mind that there is a limit on how far you can mod a 2 stroke engine, and from what I have seen so far, this motor perform very well for its size, I guess it's already built for high power output from factory which gives less room for further mod. There is always room for improvement, but the increase in performance will be determined by how far this engine is ''already modified''

@Mr HillBilly - sorry - don't have a 91 to compare to but the following attachment shows a comparison.

@Carey - I use Amsoil Sabre 100:1 on my zenoahs - do you think that at 25:1 will be fine for this motor... is it 20:1 break in and 25:1 later or 25:1 all the time

Should I use a mineral oil for break-in like I did on my zenoahs?

@Carey - what's the silver large screw in the back of the head for ? (pic no.12 above)

also - here is an attachment a forum member in oz showed me - it shows what mods need to be done to various helis to make it fit.

Sir

Did you bought from directly OS from Japan. If not please suggest where we can buy from the priice that you mentioned. Because Infinity sold them from 589 USD and if you buy from 100 USD less than that price it may be reasonanble. Thank you ver much.

Looks like you might haft to cut the fan shroud for the carb and the taller head but other than that it does not look like it will be to much to get her int there.

I am looking forward to IRCHA so can see this cool little guy in person. Motor price it a bit high but you will save more than that in nitro in less than a month.

+1 couldn't agree more, at least a reply is welcome.
congrats for the new 15HZ. I love it but it's a bit overpriced.

Thanks... do you really think it's over priced?

I mean - i know it is a lot of money - but relative to other 90's it's moderately priced it seems.

I did initially think it was overpriced - but then i did a search on the 90/105 nitro engines that normally go
in a t-rex700 for example (as i've never purchased a 90 size nitro engine before) and they are the same price, if not more and the pipes are like $150 ish on top...

http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/i...p?cPath=94_133

For example - at infinity - a 90 size is around $300 + pipe and a 105 is around $450 + pipe

The following 91hz nitro with power boost pipe is $669 for example

http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/p...oducts_id=8039

So based on those prices - i'd say the GT15HZ is basically in the middle of the 90 size price range..
so not really expensive per say - but nevertheless a "90 size" motor is expensive whatever type it is I guess.. after all, you can buy a whole 600 size heli 2nd hand for the price of just the 90 size engine

Looks good hope it all fits ok.
Is the pipe there standard 90 nitro pipe or a version for this engine.

Cheers Rob

these numbers are from RR, for me it's overpriced because there is no other gas engine made for helis.
you cannot compare it with a 90 glow engine, this one does have the power of a 70
I'm just speculating when saying 415 the price will be higher + discount coupon.
this is another store from HK http://www.keimod.com/shop/index.php?cPath=23
5.8% paypal fees that is $26 + shipping not bad...
anyway I won't buy it until ALIGN launch a new 600 heli for, I don't like homemade conversions.

GT33 with muffler = marketing 40.000 Yen = street 33.600 Yen = USA 420 U$
GT22 with muffler = marketing 36.000 Yen = street 30.240 Yen = USA 410 U$
GT15 w/o muffler = marketing 38.000 Yen = street 31.900 Yen = USA 415 ??
GT15 with muffler = marketing 43.575 Yen = street 34.800 Yen = USA ?????
GT15 powerboost = marketing 49.875 Yen = street 39.900 Yen = USA ?????

They make a dedicated power pipe for it..

ahem, Zenoah 260PUH, I own three. (CY also makes a knockoff of this version)

The 15HZ looks like a replacement for the glow in my MA Xcell 60 bent frame.

Of course you can compare it - that's crazy to say you can't..

It's a 90 size engine - period... what fuel it runs on or what power output it has is irrelvant.
It's made to go in a 90 class heli so it very simply can be compared to any other 90 engine..

Saying it can't is like saying you can't compare electric motors for cost because one is more powerful than another or one runs on 6S and one on 12S..

Every motor has it's features / advantages and that's why there are so many different motors produced.

The same 90 size heli airframe can have a powerhorse in it for a 3D flyer or a fuelmonger for a beginner..

If one person thinks it's overpriced because it only puts out the power of a 70 motor for the same cost then another will think it's very cheap because it's going to save the price of the engine 2,3,4 times over in fuel running cost for their sport flying... it's all very subjective.

You simply have to say - it's a 90 size engine and what do other 90 size in the same quality range cost. When you do that - this motor appears to be mid-priced..

Certainly not cheap - but certainly not as expensive as some of the 3D motors ..

Anyway - this is all irrelevant really as we havn't even had time to test it... I hope not, but it may end up being a piece of crap and break easily, etc... alternatively it could turn out to be a gem being very reliable and long lasting.. who knows yet.. we need time to see how it goes in general use by the public.

you save fuel costs on any gas engine but why is the GT15 w/o muffler more expensive than its brother GT22 ? exclusiveness!!
please do not answer: "airplanes engines have always been cheaper than the ones for helis"

sooner or later someone will buy these frames for the GT15 can't wait

I guess the latest / greatest always costs a little more - and sometimes smaller is harder to manufacture..
re getting the gas conrod components small enough - i guess..
