Default Dx18 momentary switch mod?

Hi Guys,

I'd like to move my bind/momentary switch over to the opposite side in the upper position and swap the other switch over to the bind switch position.

Just wondering if there is enough cable inside to swap the switches around easily?

The reason for this swap is I'd like to use the bind switch for the bailout on my HC3-SX Raptor G4 setup. But it's current position is not easily reachable in a bail out situation. You have to weave your finger in between two other switches to reach the switch. I find that the position on the top right hand side is for me an intuitive place. I alway have my right hand index finger near there anyway for throttle cut on my dx7. Also when things go t#t's up I find it quite natural to push down on a switch to bail out.

I spoke to Horizon hobby tech support UK today and they said that they could not carry out the modification. Ideally I'd like not to affect my warranty. Speaking to HH they said the warranty would be ok as long as the modification was done by a qualified person. They said as long as he mod does not directly lead to any fault on the radio the warranty would be fine.

Could anyone who has opened up their dx18 comment on if there is enough cable to easily move the switches around?

Has anyone else done anything like this on a dx18?

Finally is the bind switch user assignable in a way to use it with the rescue feature on a HC3-SX? (this should have been ideally my opening question).

The radio is brand new and the Raptor will be the first model to be used on it. Is it easy to assign the buttons ?

Don't own an 18, but IIRC isn't that also the Trainer switch? As in, holding it down allows a buddy-box TX to control the model through it? I'd be surprised if that was user re-assignable.

Any particular reason not to use one of the toggle switches already located there?

I don't use Helicommand fbl, but you can assign another channel to momentary trainer button, (switch "i") and assign trainer/buddy box to another switch.

However, the range check is still assigned to momentary switch "i" by default. When depressed, it goes to reduced power for range check. I don't believe I would use that momentary switch "i" for HC3SX bailout.

I would suggest using toggle switch "G" (above throttle hold toggle) for bail out.....

Yes the low power/range check function is not assignable. It is fixed to switch I.it will only go into low power if you have the range test menu open though. It will not go into low power during normal use with anything else assigned to that switch.

There is not enough slack in the leads to swap switches from side to side but on all my radios I have swapped the Gear and Trainer so the button is much easier to reach. You could move switches around if you added some longer leads and routed them correctly. If done right this is not a problem. There are several ways to cause damage with open PCBs exposed so it does take some knowledge and skill and you really need to know what your doing.
