Default Guide for applying firmware updates to the DataPod and Vortex

This video guide covers firmware updates for the DataPod, VX1 Flight Computer, VX1 Sensor, and VX1n.

The video shows only M1 and M2 protocol for the available firmware and documents, as that was what was available at the time of the video. Since the video, M3 and M4 firmware and documents have been released. And soon M5 (V3) will be available.

The update procedure shown in the video is the same regardless of the firmware you select.

For the VX1n, the procedure for applying a firmware update is identical to that for the VX1 Flight Computer.

ADDED:

You DO NOT need to apply all three updates each time new firmware for one product is released. For instance, if new firmware for the DataPod (VX1 Editor) is released, all that you would update is the DataPod.

Thanks guys. Next time I record a computer screen, I'll use a software program and not a camera.

Weird. The computer I used has Windows 7 OS. Maybe install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and try it again?

The program was developed on Win7 and also tested on other version of Windows apart from Win8. You need to have the MS redistributable installed and also make sure you .NET is in good order. I had a couple of people with missing/corrupt .NET files that couldn't run the program but all run ok after a .NET re-install.

Great Video Bob. You did a great job. I will definitely reference this while I'm setting up the 500 this weekend.

With all these how-to videos your doing now you might have to change your name to Finless_Bob O.

In preparation for V3 firmware, I updated the first post of this thread so it reads as follows:

This video guide covers firmware updates for the DataPod, VX1 Flight Computer, VX1 Sensor, and VX1n.

The video shows only M1 and M2 protocol for the available firmware and documents, as that was what was available at the time of the video. Since the video, M3 and M4 firmware and documents have been released. And soon M5 (V3) will be available.

The update procedure shown in the video is the same regardless of the firmware you select.

For the VX1n, the procedure for applying a firmware update is identical to that for the VX1 Flight Computer.

It may not be necessary, but I did this just to be on the safe side. I unplugged the tail servo for the update on my Warp, being that the default tail servo frequency is 1520us.

If you have a narrow band tail servo such as 760us, you might take this precaution also, until you can go back into Tail Setup and select the proper frequency for your tail servo.

Default selection for the swash servos is Digitial, so most people should be set there.
