I really try to take crashing lightly. It helped that I knew exactly what happened. This year I'm going to really focus on flying to my potential, doing irl what I can do in the sim.

I expect that there is going to be lots of crashing this year.

I cringe more at the ridiculous sound of my voice recorded electronically. It ups itself an octave or two! ;(

Thor,
You may want to load test those battery packs with a cell checker attached. I would be willing to bet 1-2 cells are sagging badly under load. No reason you should drop under 3.1V/cell

I think he's referring to the fact that it almost looked like the heli did an unintentional back flip close to the ground (in relation to all your other moves which were much higher up), when in reality you were just starting a low back flip when it went into LVC, and you flipped it over to save it.

Oh. Yes, I was flipping out to enter an inverted backwards circuit that would have been clockwise. Instead, I tried to continue the flip in TH in an attempt to get her feet under her. In retrospect, that bled my HS like crazy, and I probably should have centered the collective and rolled her to tail in upright. I might have had a better shot at the auto.

I have a cell checker that does logging. It's brand new though, and I'm not familiar with how to go about that. I guess it's time to study up on it.

Well, some good news out of this crash. It motivated me to get my Mini Protos back up and running. Got some great flights on her today. Also, the weather is supposed to be sucky this week, so I can now wait a bit more patiently for my skids to come in.

What brand of packs were you flying. Very suspect to hit LVC. I have the YGE and its never happened to me.

This is an interesting question. I'm flying Spyders. Brand new, 7 cycles. I can't be certain, but I think this happened on my Prôtos with brand new Spyders too. I'll have to check my logs and see if I noted this. I'll prob give Dave a call tomorrow or Tuesday and see what he thinks. I don't know enough about electrical theory, but it was brought up at the field today that the ultra low IR might cause the packs to sag a bit more. Both packs measure 1 or 0 in all cells according to 306b. Resting voltage after crash was 3.84v per cell. I think it might have to do with not being broken in completely.

So sorry to see this. Nice flying. Glad it wasn't worse! I would have cried!

Perhaps, but still a nice save which prevented a lot a potential damage!

On which day, from where did you order your parts, and what parts were ordered, Thor?

Well, I ordered from RRE the Sat after, but he informed me that he in fact had no parts due to not updating database. So I cancelled order and called RH. Placed a back order via phone for skids and pipes on 19(?). Got shipping confirmation just a couple hours ago. So they are coming.

It's no biggie. But I think I'm going to start hoarding parts. Supply is a much harder wait than money.

Okay... I was just wondering if there was anything we could do to speed things up for you. I'm glad it got sorted.
If there is a next time, let us know earlier and we'll do our best.

I appreciate your support. I had considered taking you or dodge up on your earlier offer, but I decided to attempt a little patience. It's a hard thing to do!
