Angry Goblin 500 is smoking... literally! Thanks CastleCreations/Talon 90

Thank you Talon 90 for making the maiden voyage of my brand new Goblin 500 an unforgettable & smoking experience... no comments enjoy the pictures...

Facts:

Goblin 500.
19 Pinion, 4120 motor, 6080G Spektrum Tail servo, DS515M Cyclic, Scorpion Backup Guard installed and Spektrum 7200BX with Satelite & telemetry on RPM & Voltage

Two minutes into the flight simply hovering testing the Beastx setup and the Governor RPM in the telemetry while Governor mode was at 2400 rpm, cyclic had a "glitchy" feeling with difficulty raising RPM. Landed and while light on skids helicopter stopped responding and tilted right motor stopped almost immediately and while smoke came out of the canopy.

So far, Blades, Tail Brades, skids, Talon, Backup Guard (and I hope not the rest of electronics) needs replacing....

So sad...

Looks like the breakway skid brackets did their job. Must have slammed it down pretty hard. Sucks, but doesn't look too bad. Could be worse.....could have lost control during a 80mph pass.

I'd recommend trying a Jeti Mezon or Kontronik Jive for your next ESC.

CC's designs are reasonable, but you get the luck of the draw on manufacturing QA.

Sorry about your Goblin.

I was looking at the Talon for my E5 but it just seemed like it was lacking a bit of juice for that size heli.

(Assuming you didn't overdraw the ESC, unlikely given its a 90A in a 500 and you seem to know what you were doing).

Ya know, they keep saying they've fixed this... but here's yet another Castle up in flames. We just don't hear about other makers going up in flames with such regularity. That's it... I was going to use a Castle HV in my 600, but I am just going to look elsewhere.

Sorry abut your Goblin. Hope the shell didn't suffer too much damage.

Good choice. I've had a CC go up in flames on me, it's not fun. I trust Chinese clone ESCs more than CC!

I just don't understand why someone would put a $70 ESC on a Goblin. How does CC make this ESC for half the price of a ICE 100?

Can you imagine the total value of ALL the models Castle Creations is responsible for the loss of.
If I was a lawyer I would start a class action law suit.

Sorry about your new bird.

It's an SAB recommended ESC. Plenty of 500 Goblins using the Talon with no issues.
Mine has been flawless in my X5, the same as the 10+ other CC ESC's I've had over the years.

Oh man, I can FEEL YOUR PAIN. Same exact thing happened to me on a Castle 160HV with my Rush 750. Castle products are crap. I've had TWO ESC's go on me, a BEC, and my friend at the field had all the wires out of his CC BEC PRO pull out and bring his bird down. They are garbage.

I agree with mkovalcson, get a Jeti or Kontronik. Good luck with the rebuild!

Is there a reason people still buy Castle? Am I missing something here?

Not even cheap chinese ESC's do this, it's like they're packing them with pyrotechics or something.

I think the reason is price.

CC actually has some designs that "can" work well depending on the particular unit you get.

However it seems like you are playing Russian Roulette with regard to whether yours was soldered together properly. I've seen pictures of CC ESC's being opened up and having horrible/unsafe looking soldering under there and then other units are just fine.

Wow, sorry for your loss bro!! Major Bummer..

I haven't paid a lot of attention on the subject in a long while, really sorta diving back in to this great hobby again after a little highatus for economics reasons..( was laid off, but I "thought" CC was a good brand for ESC's & BEC's. Atleast as I remembered it. Haha

Glad I saw this before I bought any of that junk! Thx for the post man!!

YGE or YEP if you can't afford a YGE.

I'll never trust a CC in a heli.

Just to show the flip side of the coin... been flying CC ESC's for over 3 years now..
Yet to have one let go...

And I would believe I have over driven them a bit..

Here's an example... 45lbs AUW test on a ICE2-80HV..That has limited airflow cooling it...

That is 28 Lbs of lead slung under it.
