What head speeds do you run with the 19 tooth tail pulley?

I have the same tail blades and pulley as you with a TGY 306G-HV tail servo and Ikon. 2600, 2800, and 3000 head speeds. I have been chasing a slow mechanical type wag at the 2 lower speeds. I have lowered the gain until the tail is soft, sized the links, and gone through the tail grips.

It has been suggested to me that the 19 tooth pulley won't work with the lower head speeds. What is your experience?

More often then not a slow wag has been too little gain instead of too much. Did you try raising the gain to see if the wag gets better or worse?

Could work since you don't have a wag at the high hs where less gain is required

I've raised the gain until I get a sharp wag when the helicopter is pushed hard. The slow wag behaves the same. I don't even think I would call it a wag. It's more like the tail hunts at hover. It doesn't bother me unless I start to think about it.

Have you tried changing any advanced settings like I gain or others?

No, I have only adjusted the gain with the transmitter.

Hydros27,

I have never tached either of them.

I would guess about 3000 RPM on the head, though.

I think I posted this earlier on this thread, but here is a video-you can see that the tail is completely locked in:

Compass Warp 360, JR XG14 Transmitter, Robird 360 FBL Unit, KBDD Main and Tail Blades (4 min 50 sec)

Also, a really brief video of Sing23's Warp, which I had here for tuning/checking a month or two ago. One of his main concerns was the tail not holding-I went through the machine to check it (did not really find anything wrong). You can see me wag the tail back and forth two or three times to make sure that it held properly before I took it up and flipped it around. I set it up the same, the RPM was about the same-flew just about exactly like mine:

Depending on what fbl controller you're using, tx gain might not have any effect. For me 9x out of 10 a hunting tail was too little tail gain. Except on the Oxy3 where raising tail gain 3points cured the slow wag. Too much tail gain has always created a fast wag for me and too much I gain goes right past wag into violent shake/vibration.

Raise the tail gain in your fbl 3-4points and see if it gets better or worse. If it gets better raise it 1-2 points at a time till the hunting is gone. If it gets worse then try lowering tail gain. If neither works knock down esc I gain, if none of that gets it then it's probably a mechanical issue.

To make these process easy and quick set your gain channel on a slider ore adjustable knob and do a testflight to get in the ballpark.
That way you can test out the whole range of P gain in one flight, and after finding the value that work best set it to a switch and be done with.

I flew my warp with vbar many times the last few weeks with the common tail gain setting at multiple places from 50 up to 86, and it held rock steady at each setting with no change in performance and no wag. Point being, if your advanced settings are tuned properly for your heli, the common gain will have little effect within a given range

I would highly recommend Mr Mel's vbar videos to anyone trying to learn to tune a tail on a heli. It's much more than just the one tail gain setting... For any fbl, unless there are "magic" ones out there lol... So many different mechanical factors affect the tail performance

Did a short maiden of mine today

Plan was to do a quick spoolup to check some settings...

Gov was setup too low, got ~2000rpm, but I couldn't resist a small hop.

Holy moly this thing is sweet quiet and rock stable

I'm actually liking my warp set at a lower throttle right now with a higher Collective range. I think I'm somewhere around plus and minus 13 degrees on the collective range. The sound is much better in the low RPM range and it tamed things down so that it fits my experience level better but it still is very agile

That's exactly how i have my lowest RPM setup, the one i use half the time maybe.
It performs beautifully stable and loooong flight times.
Three days ago i tried a few flights at 100% (still on gov store). Soon the GOV sagging shown up ( normal) but it was all good fun

Low RPM guys. Are you running the 17 or 19 tooth tail pulley?

I'm using the 17 tooth smaller pulley, shortest tail servo arm length I could get, 62 mm blades. The same setup as I had before but now it's crap. I am still having some binding issues in the tail I'm working on though. I will let you know what happens after I get the tail freed up.

I'm using stock pulley. Latest version I think but don't know the tooth count off the top of my head.

What are your flight times Luigi? I'm getting 6 minutes on a 1550mah 6s, but not using the recommended 80% of pack. Comes down around 3.8v.

my 1300mah packs fly 5 mins, come down slightly puffed at about 3.76v, and only put about 800-850 back into packs.

907Heli,

Binding, even slight binding, will do it any time (on any helicopter).

If I run into this, I usually pop the tail spider/slider links off and pull on each tail blade while twisting/feathering it-this will let you know if the issue is in a tail bearing.

Then snap one of the links back on and see if it binds. If it does-reaming slightly will usually help. Unsnap it and do the same for the other link.

If it does not bind, then snap the other one on and try pulling both of the blade grips out from the hub and twisting/feathering them. If it binds here, check the alignment of the links (sometimes, just unsnapping the links and rotating the spider 180 degrees will remove binding too).

I've run into this on other helis but always been able to fix it much easier. I just made a reamer out of an old ball and loosened it up. The slider was sticky on the tail shaft too. It's pretty good now, I'm going to go fly it after dinner and will report back.
