Added the new Lynx swashplate to the 500 ultralight which does add a few grams but since most of the changes I've made to it lately were just to increase the durability, flight characteristics and robustness, I think the new swash was a good choice.

Now, I just have to wait for the VTX 557s to show up.

I also went down to the RAMS funfly in North Carolina and let a bunch of people fly the 500UL and generally everyone seemed really impressed with how it flies.

Cool. Nice feather weight feel I'm sure ☺️

What is the current setup flying weight?

How long can you fly with that battery?

2566g and I typically get 7min.

...but at the funfly, I let Daniel Dugger fly it and then I finished the battery at 1300rpm and I think we got a total flight time around 12min or so.

Nice .
I have really enjoyed the lower head speeds and longer flight times as well.
My 480 I stretched to 525's and still get 9 minutes at 1900 head speed.it weighs 5 lbs

I always figured a 480 could probably be built lighter than my 550UL but I really like the larger canopy on the 550. I briefly considered modifying the stock 480 frames to use the larger canopy.

Got my pair of VTX 557s and I think they are a small upgrade over the Rail 556s. So, my pair of Rails will be up for sale soon.

I was looking at the new Ditex micro servos and wondering if I could make them work in my 550. I had to go back to the second page of this thread to remind myself of what servos I had started with on this project and I was blown away that I've had this heli for going on 5 years now. I also noticed that Helifreak broke a bunch of my old youtube video links.

DITEX 0606 MICRO 58 Ncm (82 oz/in) TELEMETRY SERVO
https://hackermotorusa.com/shop/hack...ex-0606-micro/

I'm not actually sure these would have enough torque or bearings even to handle the "abuse".

Jeti has been spreading rumors that the Mezon Pro escs might ship sometime 'soon' and YGE has finally started releasing ESCs with telemetry in them as well. I've thought about putting a Tribunus on this heli as well but I just don't know which is the best option at this point. I suspect the Tribunus is the easiest to integrate and setup though. So, I suppose the question is MezonPro 80 (12s), Tribunus 120 or YGE 95LVT. The YGE is lighter than the other two but programming YGE escs today is such a pain compared to the alternatives. I mean, with my Mezon 120, I can change settings from my transmitter which is pretty amazing.

Mikado also announced some new canopies and I kind of want this one to replace my badly faded yellow and blue one.

I got some Dinogy 6s3300 graphene 2 packs for this heli just before the last decent flying day of 2017 so I'm looking forward to flying it a lot more in 2018.

The Ditex servos are some really cool tech. They are in the vein of IOT where everything can operate autonomously but also maximize effectiveness by participating collaboratively. Love the current vs work profiling, optimising and limiting. Just wish they had higher speeds on the full size.

Great idea to go with leveraging their tech by going smaller. You can check out how much the servo size and max torque limits you in flight through their telemetry. Great project!

This bird has definitely gained some weight over the past year or two but all the changes were performance and reliability related. I've swapped servos on this bird more than any other heli I've owned. The MKS 9767 / 9780 are amazing servos but they are also heavier than I would like.

I suspect I will end up switching to the Tribunus 120 to cut some weight and hopefully improve the governor performance. It would be about $300 to switch servos again and I just don't think micros would be durable on this heli.

I would never put micros in a heli like this. Also run a set of the same mks on my 480 stretch.... Top performance servos

Did you look at the specs on them?

I'm mostly concerned with reliability.
Tiny gears with big blades don't sound good to me.
Reliability first 😉

I never really had reliability or durability issues with the gears on the tiny Hyperion servos I had in this heli. The problem was with the output shaft support and/or bearings. I may have to buy a single Ditex just to check it out and if I like what I see, buy the other two. I'll probably keep the 9780
on the tail...

I had some questions about this setup and realized I had not taken any photos of several components so I thought I would make an album to consolidate all the photos in a single place.
