Question Turnigy Typhoon 450H 2218H

I have a quick question about this motor. I haven't really seen much talk about this motor on a 450x.

I had one of these motors laying around for my 300x but never put it on so I figured I'll try it on the 450X.

If you have used this motor did it fit the stock frame without having a problem with the pinion touching the lower gear? And what pinion size we're you using with the stock main gear?

Thanks

I'm running the 2215 in one of my 450xs no problem with stock mount. Pinion lines up fine with gear. Basically the same motor.

Hi Chris,

I am currently running my 2nd 2218 Typhoon motor. It has more than 350 flights on it and counting. I've also owned the 2215 - could not tell much of a difference. I fly for about 3.5 minutes (light 3D).

While the 2215 and 2218 can easily use the stock mount, it is not exactly a drop-in replacement. The motor shaft is 3.17mm (the E-Flite motor is 3mm, I think) so I had to buy a new pinion. I chose this one:

http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...rch=V2-150-11T

The pinion lines up fine with the main gear on the B450/450X when installed. The only other thing I had to do was reverse two of the three motor leads to get the motor to spin in the right direction.

Oh, and the 3.5mm bullet connectors are not included if you are ordering from Hobby King, so be sure to have some on hand (for anyone considering getting one).

These are my go-to motors now for the Blade 450. I had a 2215 that lasted 484 flights. Unbeatable value for the money IMHO.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear.

I have the Align hardened 11,12,13- 3.17mm pinions that are just like the one you linked at Hobby King. What ESC are you using with this motor?

I won't get around to installing the motor until Saturday though. But the weather looks good so I'll get to fly it the same day.

Thanks again.

I am still using the stock ESC after nearly 1900 flights. But when the time comes to change this is what I plan to get from Hobby King:

Hobbyking YEP 45A (2~6S) SBEC Brushless Speed Controller
PRODUCT ID: 9351000016
Price: $24.20 USD

But my point is: the stock ESC is fine with the Typhoon motors.

I have a YEP 40A in both my 450X and 300X they work great! The YEP 45A is a great Esc as well just a bit bigger than the 40A.

Have the motor installed and ready for the fly field in the morning. I Have the 12T pinion on right now,see how it feels then going try the 13T. The fan intake on top the motor was going the wrong way so I just took it off and flipped it around works perfectly now.

Damn I should have put this motor in sooner.. It has great power and torque compared to the 440H motor and longer flight times too! Motor and batteries are coming down much cooler after a hard 3d flight! I really don't believe this is a 3450kv it seems like a 3600KV or 3700KV the way it flies...

I'm running the 2218 in my flybarred sev2 with a 11t pinion and running the 2215 in my 450 pro fbl with a 12t pinion. Both have great power and so far everything is great. Running an align 40a esc in sev2 and turnigy plush 40a in my pro.

Cool. I bought some 4S 1800 mAh packs recently and tried them on my Blade 450 3D w/ the Typhoon 2215 motor. The thing flew like a rocket! The motor is rated for 3S and 4S so it handled things fine, but came down quite hot to the touch.

I also have a 450 Pro FBL DFC now. When I bought the kit I bought this motor from Hobby King:

NTM Rotor Drive 450 Series 3400KV / 500W
PRODUCT ID: 9171000066

Also a nice motor and very affordable. They also have a 6S version. 240 flights and counting and still going strong...

I still have this motor in my 450X, 300 flights later it's still going strong..

I'm running the 2215 in my 300X and it's a power house as well!

For the price you can't beat these motors..

What pinion did you end up using on the 2218 in your 450?

With the stock frame 12 tooth pinion. 13 would probably be a little better but the stock motor mount won't allow it. Now if you order a aftermarket motor mount the 13 tooth pinion should fit because it allows you to move the motor back a little more.

But all in all the 12 tooth works just fine.

This is bang on, aftermarket mount if you want to run the 13 tooth pinion but 12 tooth works fine for my light 3d flying. I love the extra poke it has and also gained 30 seconds or so flight time over the shocker stocker and still using the stock esc until it blows. The poor thing doesn't get as much use since I got my Oxy though ..

I run 18 degrees timing and 16Khz on my 3S bird using a YEP 40. You can go as low as 8Khz but the YEP and this motor seem to like 16Khz.IMO

Hope this helps.

Just found out the hard way that a 13 tooth pinion doesn't fit, any ideas where and who care is a different motor mount or are you running a 12 tooth
