Default *** YGE 120 HV / Please see Photo ***

Fellas,

I'm unsure whether I've damaged my CAPS on my YGE 120 HV from a recent crash.

Before I send this thing back to Germany for repair, can ya'll take a look at this photo and let me know if you think the CAPS are damaged?

What are the risks of flying this ESC as is, in the event that there is some damage to the CAPS?

Thanks!!!

Kefir

If you own a YGE 120 HV and have a free moment, please post a pic of your CAPS so I have an idea of what they're supposed to look like.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, buddy. Those caps are toast. Good news is they're pretty easy to replace on your own.

Don't even think of flying like that. You run a high risk of

Read the cap specs off the caps themselves: how many uF, voltage and temperature rating. Go to mouser or digikey and look for low-ESR electrolytic caps of the same specs. Buy a bunch, they should be very cheap (like $0.15ea).

When you install them, make sure you observe the correct polarity. Electrolytic caps have a stripe on them marking the negative pin. Look at how the caps are currently installed carefully and mark the soldering points with + and -. From your picture it looks like negative is up.

Dr. M.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I think I will take the project on as it's been made to read as seemingly simple.

I am going to move forward and purchase the three Packs that I need for my YGE 120 HV and just would like to confirm that the link you posted is the correct one for the ones I need to purchase. I know that you specified that they are, but I'd just like to double check.

Thanks in advance!

Look at the caps on the 120HV and read the specs off the cans; also measure their dimensions. Then compare to the specs on the caps I linked:

Capacitance 390F
Voltage Rating 63V
Lifetime @ Temp. 5000 Hrs @ 105C
Operating Temperature -40C ~ 105C
Ripple Current 1.9A
Impedance 31 mOhm
Mounting Type Through Hole
Package / Case Radial
Can Size / Dimension 0.492" Dia (12.50mm)
Height - Seated (Max) 0.984" (25.00mm)
Lead Spacing 0.197" (5.00mm)

Everything lines-up aside from their height. The ones installed out of the factory measure 20mm and these are 25mm.

I'm not sure if that matters too much, since the new ones will slightly overlap the YGE printed board, but I'm sure can be made to fit with the hole openings and capacitor leads (+/-).

I tried locating the Rubycon ones, but couldn't find them for sale individually online. All the sites that have them listed require a minimum 1000 pcs order.

I hope these work!

It might be worth digging around for caps that fit tge dimensions exactly... But I think you're right and the 25mm ones will just fit... barely.
