Default YEP 80A / Hobbywing Platinum Pro 80A / ICE 75A

Hey guys,

As the title says i'm at a crossroads between these 3 ESC's for my V500D01. Its my fun heli to just throw around. I wouldn't call it disposable but its pretty much stock. Therefore, I want to put in a moderately priced decent unit in there. Not interested in Jive's or YGE's for this guy.

I want to put in a better ESC that has a governor function. The stock ESC is a 60A with built in 5.4 SBEC with heatsink. Pretty decent unit but i'd like at least 80A on this bird as I plan to get pretty aggressive with it with a governor.

I would like to RETAIN the built in SBEC function feature. Just keep it simple. I know the YEP and HW Platinum have this. Does the ICE have an internal BEC? If so that is probably the one i'll opt for since I already have a Talon 90 and will not have to deal with more programming software.

If it does not, what are your thoughts on the YEP and HW? Has anyone ever run both of these in 80A versions? How would you rate their respective governors and more importantly how easy are these ESC's to set up? Are they intuitive or are the directions/manuals hard to understand and a PIA to figure out?

I know the YEP has a programming card or Tx programming feature while the HW has this as well as software. I would like to avoid using Tx as programming.

How long have those of you who run these had these ESC's and how have they performed over time?

Many thanks

Thanks Diggz..........I made an impulse buy tonight lol after some research. Think I made a good choice though. An RC shop i've ordered from before in New York had 5 of the new Castle Edge 75A ESC's for $80 brand new on ebay and I had to jump on that. I got the last one

Its a little more money, but I think they retail for $120 new and I figure it would be less of a learning curve considering I already have the Talon 90. Glad the 80A is working out well for you. Should def give governor a go. You won't go back.

I run the YEP 80a on my 500. I am running it hard to push it and see what happens. I have it with the Scorp 3026-1400, and for those that know, this is a very power hungry motor. No logging on the ESC so I am not sure of the amps pulled. The motor is around 160-180, Battery is 110 and ESC is 110 when I am done with a 3:30 flight. Its getting beat and its holding up just fine. I am also running it in Gov Store mode and it has been pretty good. I cant complain for $30.
