Lightbulb SHYs Servo Gear Protection Mod

OK so if you want to stay with the stock EFLRDS76 servos, this actually seemed to work...

As we all know the cyclic servos normally chip a tooth or two of that same internal servo gear every time you crash.

I reamed (can also drill) two holes in the servo arm in order to make it less solid. I got the idea from some Align servo horns I've seen. They were light blue and made deliberately from some weak material.

The goal was for the servo horn to break in a crash in stead of the gears... and just as I had hoped: The one with a weak horn broke the horn and saved the gears. The other two cyclics both stripped gears and the horns are intact.

Of course this means you'll have to buy new horns now. But they are easier/quicker to replace, can easily be done at the field. And if you make sure you enter it in the same position as you take it off there's no need to re-set up the BX (just do a pre-flight check).

I wouldn't bother modifying the tail servo horn. It normally survives a crash.

Note! I take absolutely no responsibility for your result here! You need to be very careful not to crack the horn in the process. Or make too large holes. Should you goo to far or have some fault mid-air this is at your own risk! And if you're sceptical to this - just don't do it!

Bonus tip: Put some shrinkwrap over the tabs/ears on the tail servo, shrink, then make holes. This will work as a protection/padding so the ears don't crack/break so easily.
