Because you all have carbon tails:

My streched tail is a 1mm thick aluminium tube.
So definitely heavier than stock.
But my CG is more than perfekt with that. I often thought about a light carbon version but then I would need a heavier fin for the balance.

So the 1 Buck worth alu is just right. Cheap, easy to work with and perfect CG and I paint it any way to white
Ok I have no boom support but I will add that soon and try.

My batteries weight about 200-220g (4s 1800 40C or 3s 2400 20C) + 10g liposaver at the front.

I would be happy if you guys could tell me the weight of your carbon tubes. Then I could calculate if it will be possible for a try.

total weight is about 850g (still 200g lighter than the 450 L) lol
my canopy is also not the lightest

boom weights:

stock 26.6g 366mm
cf 32.7g 498mm finished length 421.5mm about 27.7grams, slightly heavier than the stock boom.

I don't run boom supports on these little birds.

Thanks

Ok mine is about 43 grams. With a light fin.
I think a carbon one would not work for me. those 20 grams difference would mean at least 50 - 80 grams less at the front. Unable.
Since I realized the advantage of perfect CG.

Just set it up with a non driven tail, did it a bit differently than I've seen here. Joined the 2 gears at the perimeter and cut out the spokes on the tail gear. Working great, still no auto monster but every bit helps. I also like the peace of mind that if the tail fails, I'll be able to auto it. I can't figure out what rocket scientist ever put a driven tail on a 450... I guess it was the marketing department!!!

Loving this lil beast... dropped a pinion tooth today from 13 to 12, runs even stronger!! Amazing at low headspeeds, super light and nimble. Crank it up and look out - baby's got pop!

Life starts at 6s!!

took the 450xXL out to the field today, shot a couple dozen autos in a breeze, maybe 5mph.... with the stretch/non-driven tail autos are actually enjoyable rather than a semi panicked rush. I auto my unstreched driven tailed 450x in pretty stiff breezes but it's still really not much fun, the strech/non driven tail actually has a bit of hang a the bottom and descends slower w/o loosing headspeed anyway. I am getting quite bit of bearing drag yaw up to 180 degrees depending on forward speed and hang time.

The stretch rage has just begun, once lynx parts get out there we're gonna really be hearing about it!!

Default The more I fly it the more I like it...

Got a couple more packs in just now b4 dark. The thing is freaking awesome, keep slowing the head down and doing mellow 3d with it. I'm sure I'm below 2500, I'd guess 2200ish, on the head and its so quiet and yet flys great. This bird is super light, all stock except the stretch, 6s power with boom supports removed. I think weight will be a key to low head speed performance. Efficiency is better and better. On a 12t pinion but have a 10 and a 11 on the way to try. Not sure the 10 will clear the elevator linkage tho.

Those who find the 450x ballistic headspeed intimidating and wasteful are gonna love the stretch!!

Really liking the Tarot blades, they have reflexed trailing edges which is something I've always thought flew well and auto very well. 20 years ago the original NHP blades were reflexed and I was sad to see them go.

The AE-45esc I'm running is a newer version than the one I have in my other 450x. The new one wants to switch governed head speed instantly switching flight modes which is a bit violent. Anyone know if there's a setting that will slow the transition? I guess I need to flash BLheli, but honestly I've got no other complaints with either of the stock AE-45's I have.

Default AW: STRETCHING the Blade 450 X

Did the stretching yesterday and went quite simple with the good support here / thanks guys!
I installed also a carbon boom an weight is nearly the same than original.
Testflight to come the next days... But the Blade looks much more "adult" :-) with the streched boom and blades...

Your welcome. Length is something about 421,5 mm for one boom with the tarot belt. It should be at least this length, probably longer but not shorter (my experiance).
So you can get 2 tailbooms out if one carbon pipe.
Also you need a 3mm carbon tube for the boom supports (if you want to keep it) and a 2mm carbon tube for the servo linkage also to adjust this parts to the longer tailboom.
The original tubes are only glued in the parts which are screwed to the frame/boom so you can losen them with some care and just change the tubes and keep the screw in parts (i used some superglue).

The whole stretching costs me 15Eur Tarot blades, 5Eur Tarot belt and 12Eur carbon... And a lot of fun to do it... :-)

Measuring the belt I came up with 66.5 millimeters longer than stock. Not sure of the total length.

I made my tail boom at 420mm back in October and it works perfectly. That was the length that Diablol suggested in the first post of this thread.

I made it 421,5 and it is a little bit short... I could have done it some mm longer.

This thread needs to be brought up once in a while...

Just flew my 360 bladed 450xXL for the first time in about a month. Been playing with the 500-700 stuff. Got home in time, perfect weather. Charged up the 700 and a 450 6s. I am still amazed how f'n awesome the 450 flys on 360's 6s otherwise STOCK... super light and agile... good times.

I just finished up stretching and adding an AE45(flashed with BLHeli) to my #2 450#. Both at this point have the tarot 350 blades. #2 is all stock otherwise, #1 has 450h, kst servos all around. Just no flying due to crappy weather. Have managed a few short flights on #1. To me it has made it a rather different machine (larger presence, larger sound, more graceful in moves). Now to decide on more fitting canopies for my stretched girls.
