Don't know yet. My guess is either LVC set to hard cutoff or brown out. Need to do more test to find out.

Every crash is different.

I had 5 crashes so far. All of them are on short grass field. Two of the crashes were just pick up, check, and fly - both were not light crashes. So far I went through two shafts and 3 sets of landing skids ( they are brittle in my book). Fitted landing skid from Trex450 (some girding required). It's more durable than the stock one.

I have had 2 crashes so far with mine. The first was hard onto rocks, flat at the bottom of a loop and it bent the main drive shaft, centre boom, rear boom and landing gear was smashed. The main pulley at the back got marked up but survived ok with a little file work.

The second one cause by high vibrations from making my own main shaft as I couldn't find any in stock, it was a roll from 5 meters into a sports field when the TG multi freaked out, so very short grass but hard packed soil, looks like front and back boom, one pitch slider and 2 vertical shafts but I am waiting for parts to be available before I pull it apart. The booms can probably be re-bent and used again as they only need to be straight, not perfectly formed like a tail boom.

The LG is a weak point, they seem to shatter. I used an old trick of boiling the LG in a pot of water for 20 minutes that usually reduces the stress in plastic and lets them flex rather than breaking. It looks like it has worked well so far but I need to get some more hard landings on them to say if it has fixed the problem.

I find the Stingray is quite easy to repair. I like the simple, self aligning design that makes reassembly very easy.

Yep, the repairs have been quite fast, I managed to find all the parts I needed last night at Esprit and 10% off as a nice gift seeing we don't even have thanksgiving out here.

Default Max Battery Size

Can someone please let me know the maximum battery size? I just ordered the combo kit today and would like to get some batteries on order. Searched for about an hour but all I could come up with was capacity but not any dimensions.

Hi MarkAllen,

Curtis mentionned in one of his video"s that you can go up to 3600 mah. I'm currently using 4S 2200 and 2800 lipo's. Works great.

Grtz,
Dirk

Hi i have tried 2200, 2700, 3700 and 4000mah 4S
4000mah great for fpv
2700 is a better option to start of with

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping for dimensions rather than capacity although most manufactures sizes are similar for a given capacity. I have plenty 2650mAH 6 cell batteries and I was wondering if it would be possible to limit the throttle curve to 66% with the stock motor and use them. If the PWM duty cycle is limited to the input value it should work as the average voltage would be the same as 4 cells at 100% duty cycle. The only downsides would be higher power in the BEC if it's linear and switching losses compared to running 100% with 4 cells.

Once again, thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to picking up the kit on Monday. This will be my first quad, watching people fly fixed pitch just didn't do much for me. As soon as I saw the first videos for the Stingray I knew it was just a matter of time and with the sale over the holiday I couldn't resist.

If you want to go 6 cell, there is a motor for sale my Depche_Mode, that will work to convert your Stingray.

That is the route I'm going...

Yes, That's the video. Sure would like to get one. Maybe in March. Right now I am building a Ballistic. I should say rebuilding.

The landing gear are extremely brittle. I took a set of Mini Protos landing gear and re-drilled them. They are made by Gorilla gear and flex, plus they come in black.

I think boiling the LG has helped, they feel a little more flexible than the first set which I broke.

So for those of you guys flying this model on say 2500 to 2700 mah 4S packs, what flight times are you getting? Are the packs light enough to do smooth 3D flying for 4 min? Seems like the 3D flights I've seen on 2200 packs last about 3.5 min.
