Whilst this is true, and what I'm going to say is probably obvious, you need to make sure everything else, that you might connect later, servos, etc, will also be able to deal with your chosen operating voltage.

Cheers

Hi Agian
Things get going so , thank you very much for all the support

One thing still
The way I have positioned the esc, make impossible to connect it to the Vortex (cable too short)
I could , of course extend the cable, but, it would be easier to connect the receiver and power the vortex out of the receiver

Could I connect the esc to the bing/data slot ?
Would that be sufficient ?
Would thsi require any other connection to vortex ?

If its easier to connect the ESC to the receiver you can do that, but you will probably need to connect it to the throttle channel on the receiver. The Vortex will then be powered by the 3 pin cable on the pitch channel.

If you're doing this bear in mind that you won't be controlling the ESC through the Vortex, you'll just have a traditional throttle connection.

It will work fine, but you won't be able to use features such as the Vortex governor, soft start or auto rotation bailout.

No, you can't do that without considerable additional complexity. If you connect the ESC to the RX throttle out the Vortex will receive no valid throttle signal in and will not initialise. I'm off my head right now, so I cant explain in more detail, but trust me this is correct.

If not resolved by myx, I'll revisit it tomorrow.

Good point, thank you Sutty, I'd overlooked that.

I'm pretty sure Sutty is right, the Vortex will need to see a throttle signal in order to initialise for flying, which will mean you're going to have to find a way to connect the ESC to the Vortex.

Thank you
All connections are now ok (moved the esc a bit)
The Hely is responding well
Bad news is that now I understand why previous gyro was not performing well anymore
While checking the assembly I noticed that the Flybarless head is bent , perhaps I could have waited with the purchase of the vortex....

Nevertheless, I am happy now.
Next step is the set up which again , looks a bit complex for a newbie

I think I will need you help again if possible, as soon as I have my new FBL head

It may look complex, but its pretty easy. If you just follow the steps in order it really does walk you through everything needed.

If you take your time and ensure you don't miss any steps I think you'll be surprised by the end.

Just to support what myxiplx just said, along with following Spartan studio step by step, you should read and think about the wording at each step very carefully.

There is barely a wasted word. Angelos is a master of compressed technical writing. He obviously thinks very carefully about what is written at each step.

On a couple of occasions, whilst I've been setting up, I've made assumptions about one thing or another, and whilst do so I've found myself wondering why it didn't actually tell me this vital piece of information, so I've stopped and read the text in full, and thought carefully about what it was saying.

On reading it carefully like this, in full, and thinking about what it meant or at the very least implied, for that specific step or elsewhere, I've come to the conclusion that there is not a single thing missed.

There is an issue pre-set-up, but you're past that, so I won't go into that now.

Hi, took a while to get everithing back ok.
Now a new issue , the tail servo does not center when I releas the handel.
I checked the internat but only suggestion was that need to make sure I chose the rigth micro seconds (1520 fo Md922).

I checked but that seems to be ok

Any other suggestion ?
Without that I cannot fly

That's normal with a FBL controller in heading hold mode. You've asked it to turn the helicopter to the right, and until that happens its going to keep trying.

It behaves very differently to a tail in rate mode. So long as you went through the setup and follow the steps it should be fine.

Before the maiden flight, just check that all four controls are operating in the proper direction, and that the FBL is correcting properly in all 3 axis it looks after.

As myxiplx said this is typical of FBL controllers when set to heading hold mode, which is nearly always the default, but to go further it's actually typical of nearly all gyros, when in heading hold mode.

Once you've completed set-up, if you do precisely the following, and your heli does precisely what I describe, you should be good for a maiden, at least from a tail perspective, as this will confirm your directions as well as the operation of normal heading hold.

Apply full left rudder.

Tail slider will go fully to the right. Furthest from the boom. (Note the slider moves the opposite way to the Tx stick.)

Release the rudder to centre. (The rudder servo may or may not attempt to recentre a tiny bit, but it will not move much.)

Now lift the tail a little and move the tail around to the right. As you do so the slider will move to the left, nearer to the boom. (Note the slider now moves opposite to the motion of the tail.)

If it does this, with these directions, then you will be fine.

For fun you can even try centering your tail slider by positioning your heli's tail, or by tapping your rudder stick back and forth just so. It can be done with either, but it will not move when left alone at one end after having applied some moderate rudder.

Thank you very much

It does indeed what you both say but , is I try to fly (widout main rotor) it start turning around like crazy

That is not normal right?

To be honest the problem started when I inverted the tail rotor direction
but I did that because the heli was turning right when moving the handle left and viceversa

I will check again more accurately as you indicated

I suspect you have some of your directions reversed. You need to check your TX directions are right first, then your tail servo direction, and also your FBL orientation.

If you reverse the wrong setting it can result in the FBL correcting the wrong way. This is why you need to check both the control directions, and the way the FBL is correcting before the maiden flight.

There's a FAQ explaining this type of issue:
http://www.spartan-rc.com/resources/...ch=orientation

I think that one might be for cyclic Ross. Is there one for tail? Should work without torque from having no main rotor right. You should be able to steer neutral on the tail rotor right? I'm sure I've done that before now.

I'll just check that I didn't do a typo with my directions there, but I'm almost sure not.

One sec.

Tomorrow , with a little luck with teh weather , maybe maiden flight

Thank you very much to all
