How long will the introductory price last? I am definitely interested in one or two, but don't really want to purchase them just yet. I definitely don't want to miss the price cut tho.

Wow you ordered it and got it the next day? I'm still waiting on mine... But that's due to belgian postal service. They should call themselves slowlads. Or lazylads or something

I don't know a specific date but the site says promo ending soon. I read somewhere they would only last for a week. Not sure about that though.

I have had a Trex 550 V1 for some time now and I am thinking about converting it to FBL.
Is the VX1n suitable for a bird this size or should I stick to VX1?
I understand the only difference is the remote sensor on the VX1 which would allow placement on an area less prone to vibrations but the current VX1n combo offer is too good to pass.

The whole thing looks so small anyway, I don't think you will have trouble finding a nice vibe free area anyway. Also, of all the reading I have done in this forum I have yet to come across anyone with vibe induced drifts or tipovers, which other systems are known to suffer from.

Could be the relatively low numbers still, but I'm inclined to believe that it is as a result of the very good vibration tolerance of the sensors chosen for the Vortex units, which of course has been described and discussed at length elsewhere in this forum. Don't know for sure of course.

Two sats only should be fine on a 550 I would think, so I don't see an issue going for just a sat type install. It's only the same as a main receiver and a sat anyway, so from that point of view there would be no issue either.

Cheers

I have a Futaba R6008HS receiver (which does not support S-bus) so it will be a standard setup for me, no sats.
I guess you are right I should be able to find a suitable place without too much trouble on the 550.

Taz,

That should be a pretty straightforward setup. Good luck, Sir. And let us know if you need any guidance along the way.

Order placed. Now all I have to do is find a FBL head to complete the conversion.
Thanks for the help guys. I will let you know how it goes. This will be my first experience with a FBL heli (apart from my MCPx). It would seem only normal to try with a Spartan given my experience with my Quarks.

I think one of the reasons for a better experience is using the thin mounting tape to get a good solid fixing, even on a nitro model.

The old days of thick mountings are gone and I think they were part of the problem in flight and on the ground.

Intrigued by your reference to older style gyros I went to look up a little more about them, and found a wiki article describing something called London moment. Somehow this can be used detect a rate of change of as little as 1.4 x 10 -7 degrees over the course of one year. It says this is the same as the angle subtended by the width of a single human hair viewed at a range of 20 miles. Imagine a gyro that could keep your heading to within a ten millionth of a degree, whilst you hovered for a year.

Now that is a sensitive gyro.

Best get that slop out of my tail now in preparation.

Cheers

But is is the wrong gyro for the job as it would see even the tiniest vibration. This is probably going to be a surprise to you but the sensors we use sacrifice long term stability to achieve vibration immunity. Nobody cares if the Vortex drift 0.5 or 5 degrees after an hour. But a bit of compromise there gives it a lot more vibration immunity and better stability over short periods of time. If you need a gyro for an intercontinental missile with 3 hours flight time it is a totally different story!

Indeed, it was just a little fun, but yes, I appreciate there are other contraints.

Cheers

Hi Angelos,

why is there a $100 price difference between the vx1 and vx1n when they have the same sensors, firmware and perform the same?

Hence my post, built in obsolescence. Which is not the same as saying it is obsolete.

Got my unit yesterday and I have to say that the pads for placing the unit are small.
Didn┤t really find any directions on Spartan┤s page about exactly where it will do most effect.
But I guess I will center it under the unit..

Use two pads side by side.
