Default Post your setups for 800 and 700

What motor, ESC, pinion, battery cell count/capacity, blades and target head speed choices?

What's you're flying style? How you like it, and what you would do different?

Default MD 700

Hey all! Figured I'd chime in and give a bit of insite to the cause.

Specs.. MD700

SAVOX 1258TG's on cyclic, MKS HBL980 on tail, cgy750, Scorpion 4035-560, CC edge 160, Pulse 5000's 12S, Nano tech's 5000's 12S, Edge 693 FBL and 105's, 3000mAh life pack powering electronics.

So with this particular set up I initially tried using a CC120 but after the temps were pushing 200F with the 13 tooth, and I was seeing 148A spikes, and since 96% gov effiency was around 2300 rpm, I figured i'd better re-gear her (drop to a 12 tooth) and pop a 160 in her, as i'm not trying to run her like a 450 (not that the airframe couldn't handle it, ask me how I know... ). Much happier now BTW... Running about 110F, 2150 is roughly 96% on the Castle, LHS flying is 1600 RPM at I think 75% gov effiency (Super fun to do and love those low RPM blade farts!!!!).

Next issue to solve.. (hopefully I alread have)... When doing monster tail slides to not quite gimbal lock front flipping loops the tail is blowing out... However I was only running 105 edge tails. Just today I picked up some rail 116's and this should make things much happier but the weather here in Michigan is not the best right now... mainly Just too much torque and pitch with this set up for the tail to keep up with... Hopefully tomorrow I can get back out and give her what for again... probably need to add some FF to the tail as well but we'll see.

As for the Heli... Absolutely one of the smoothest I have flown (and trust me when I say i've flown a lot). She auto's like a dream, and is THE FASTEST off center heli I own or have flown... Period... I actually had to slow the rates down in the 750 to about 260 deg/sec and it's still trying to chew its tail off in a flip..... Damn I need some more batteries...

Hopefully I didnt hijack too much..
Keep em out of the dirt fellas..

Garry.

Great posts guys!

I would definitely recommend the 115mm tails on these birds.

Now, we also have the tail speed up gear so if you like to run lower headspeeds you can simply install the 9 tooth speed up gear for the tail and that will resolve any issues your having with the 105's.

Hope this helps!!

Would you still recommend 115mm blades when using the speed up gear?

I'm planning on using the speed up gear and 115 tail blades, paired with Matt Black 800 Spin blades, but I'm targeting my machine to a 1400 RPM top.

If I planning a screaming high speed monster, I'd stay away from the speed up gear but still use 115 tail blades.

I'll be intrested in hearing your planned setup, and type of flying you're targeting. 800 or 700? Keep us posted as your project progresses.

Thanks for your input, let us know how it works out for you. I'm also interested in low/mid head speeds so was wondering if 115 blades + speed up gear would be overkill or not.

With that head speed it is really going to jump. Looking forward to hearing the flight report.

Have been accumulating parts for my MD7 build.

My low HS flys really smooth with great tail authority. Just was a little tame, so I bumped the HS to 1600 a while ago. At 6 minutes batteries still show 3.9v. Going to start increasing flight time.

what do you mean its going to jump?

and little off topic but my 7HV with the same power setup gets 6min at 1850HS with 50% left in the packs on 12s

Nothing really meant other then performance should getting into the pop-n-lock category.

I wouldn't expect 6 min flights, Timer set to 4:30 on 1900 hs between 22% and 28% depending on how hard I fly. 2150 timer set to 4min lands right at 20%. I also backed some pitch out of the 2150 as I felt it was unnecessary to have 13.5 degrees at 2150
