500-3D
Got my all metal tail bits and grips, cf tail blades, metal tail servo brackets, savox 1290 on tail and quark gryo installed with everything set up and balanced. Test flight went great, everything is smooth and I am happy. For this bird I am hoping for nothing but worry free flights for the rest of the session.

Well, my replacement tail shaft, align grips and pitch slider showed up... I disassembled the tail end and discovered on re-assembly that one of the TC bearing is shot
Getting alu Blade tail bits will take too long, even ordering just the bearings will be an international order. I can get all the align 500 tail parts locally... is it doable? I vaguely remember reading about a fella who did just this but I think he needed to shorten the 500x boom? I cant find the thread, anybody care to shed some light/insight? Cheers! -=S=- |

Just burned through a pack behind my shop this morning, all I can say is I'm loving the new ZTW 85a ESC w/govenor. Running 85% IU1 and 90% IU2 motor timing set to 30* everything comes down cool, WAY better than the stock ESC which after about 15-20 flights would give up the goods and quite on inverted punchouts. Now everything is solid.

Hey Steve,
In that link, only the hub and grips are Align, still using the Blade TC and slider... did you order all the Align tail parts? Please let me know if you went all Align, I'm super curious! Cheers! -=S=- Ps. I hope you've ordered yourself some linkage balls too! |

Ya ordered the assembly in black and a ball set, won't see it for a few days but I will post back how it goes. Can't even fly mine right now cuz the vibes are so bad, over a year of vibe free and now I can't get rid of them, I'll try the Align stuff since HH cant get their metal stuff together.
UPDATE: cancelled Align stuff cuz supplier is flaky, as well my LHS informed me that they had a set released and shipped from HH. Woot!

Finished rebuilding my 500X last evening and then put 3 flights on it. Still stock and still smooth. For me the biggest change was when I soaked the belt in silicon and ground the boom to the frame. The BeastX is happy and the subtle tail wag I could never get rid of is gone.

Went to the field to fly yesterday, and was able to get 3 packs through the 500X. Then I realized that I had grabbed the wrong deep cycle battery and couldn't recharge my packs at the field. So I flew everything I had charged for the 300X and 450X and then went home. On my last 500X I was noticing that the heli seemed to act strange on turns. It was as if I had given a bad input and it wasn't very smooth on fast banked turns. Anyway, I finished the pack and took it home.
I decided to swap out the Turnigy 3126-1300kv motor that I was running for a Turnigy 3126-1600kv motor. While working on it, I found the reason my turns were odd. While doing a bench test of the motor, one of my cyclic servos wasn't responding correctly, and then it just completely died. Wow. Thank God I left the good deep cycle at home and couldn't fly any more. So last night was spent installing the JR DS821 servos that I already had prepared and ready to go. I got them installed and did a complete setup on my Robird. I was able to get another 3 great flights on it today and it's flying better than ever now. Also had some great flights with the 300X and 450X, even though it was pretty windy today.

Finally had time to sit down and troubleshoot... it appears that my AR7200BX isn't working properly. Shipping it off to HH. And I'm gonna send them some of the parts that broke when it crashed.

Vronny - I'm running them at 5.1 right now. My original plan was to wait to install them until I got an external BEC installed. Since I had a servo failure and wanted to fly, I figured I would at least get them in and working. It actually does great for me, but then again I'm just flying sport.
What throttle curves are you running on your 1600kv motor and do have an idea of your head speed?

I picked up and handled my 500x today after flying my stock 450x and finishing the setup on my Microheli 450x . I miss flying the 500x. Hopefully it'll be back up soon.

Been practicing inverted FF and figure 8's on the sim for the last couple of weeks, can flip it right over ten feet off the ground and go fly...Tried this weekend with the 500 and totally lost it right out of the inverted hover and put it in...WTF!! I don't get it, I'm as comfortable as can be on the sim can save it from almost any mistake...then totally dumb thumb it IRL..Pissed!
Rant Over......Lol

Had an unplanned upgrade opportunity . Doesn't look bad took out the blades and flybar. I've been wanting to do the fbl conversion anyway.

I put a few more flights on my 500 3D today (video below). I'm hanging around 60 flights on it now (I'd need to check my logs to be sure - it may be a little more than that). The bird is holding together fine. It has performed flawlessly ever since I first diagnosed the static issue and installed a better tail servo and a better tail gyro. Everything is still 100% stock, except:

I agree, even with the stock bearings. The stock tail case is finicky with screw tightness but works just fine...

My Castle Lite 75 smoked itself. Luckily I was on the ground so my heli is still in one piece.
Otherwise, it was flying as well as it ever has... perhaps even better. Now it's grounded again. Bleh.
