Default Looking for scale rotor head for Jet Ranger 10mm shaft

Hi guys,

I am looking for a suggestion or information of tested scale main rotor head for 600@700 size Jet Ranger III. I came across SmartModel brand but I am not shure about quality of there scale heads. I am also looking for longer main shaft that would fit Trex600E/N mechanics. I saw Rc aerodyne has it but price is quite high. Any suggestions are welcome.

Best Regards, Peter

I can't help with the Smartmodels rotor head, but I can shed a little light on the main shaft. I actually used the 600N main shaft because it was the longest premade shaft I could find. Other guys have had these shafts custom made, which might be your best option. Use the search bar on this site and on runryder. You should be able to find what your looking for.

Hope this helps!

Flsurfer7 thanks, I forgot to mention I already have the 600E/N shaft but to replicate the look of Jet Ranger this shaft is not long enought. What could do the trick is Rc Aerodyne longer main shaft for Trex 600. Product is 5cm longer than 600E/N shaft, but quite expencive around 49 USD+33USD for shipping+VAT and the price is quite unreasonably high.

Hi Aqwik69dart, this is exactly the head I had in mind when saying Smartmodel brand, they are producing them, but I haven't seen any feedback regarding quality and availability of spare parts (fathering shaft, etc.). I have emailed Smartmodel about spare parts and they said spare parts are not a problem, but they are nowere on web to be found so I am a bit sceptical that is true.

This is a link to Smartmodel scale main rotor head:

I did not realize smartmodel had the same scale head. I know both smartmodel and RCA get a lot of the fuselages from TM Model, so I wonder who actually make the head. About your shaft question.....I went off the suggestion most have here about the nitro trex 600 main. Below are a couple comparison pics. The first pic is of the stock Trex 600 ESP main shaft with an outrage 50 head installed. The second pic is a Trex 600n main shaft using the same outrage 50 head. No other modifications were necessary for me to install this nitro main shaft. I believe I paid $12.99 at my local hobby shop for a pair of them, and it gave me the added length I was after

Hi Aqwik69dart,

looking at the hight of your main head it is still too low considering real one. I am shure the longer main shaft from RC Aerodyne is closest to real thing. I also found out Vario is having 10mm shafts longer dimensions but it is a question if they can be succesful modified, did anyone used this option.

Best Regards, Peter

I agree it is still too short compared to the real thing, but like you, I think the RCA shaft is way more expensive than it should be.

@Aqwik69dart I agree regarding RC Aerodyne's to expencive price for there long main shaft, but it looks like they are the only one having scale look solution.

@MotorRotor I am looking for scale main rotor head. I already have working head I would like to add more realism to the scale fuselage of a Jet Ranger, that is why I am asking about scale head.

Best Regards, Peter

Hi Peter,

I custom made my own 10mm hollow shaft -in any length I want.
picture here is the comparison..top is original Align Shaft for 600N

It only cost me about $8.00 to get it fabricated at a machine lathe shop..

Cheers,
Helikid

Your only trouble is that it is a huge head more suited on a 700 size model. I am also looking to get a longer main shaft for mine and when I get it made (or bought), I will be using a Logo 500 flybarless head as it is the closest thing to the shape and size that I have seen out there. I know it is not a dished rotor but I am more worried about proper performance, not so much about having a scale head that is really way too big. There was only one bad review of that manufacturer that I can remember and it was the Huey head (same head with the flybar attached) which had the pitch arm come off in flight because of the arm being pulled off the grip. Take care.

Hey Don!

I am closely watching your Jet Ranger build I have to say your bird is looking great.
I will probably start a new topic on my Jet Ranger 700 build,..

Regarding scale head from SmartModel I do have 700 size Jet Ranger so the head should be good in size, I am using Trex 600 mechanics beeing stretched to 700 so I have more room for scale cockpit. In general there are no bad reviews on forums regarding ScaleModel products but there are also no videos or pictures generaly.

I have received a tip from colleague about another Jet Ranger scale head from the guys in Germany even more authentic thaw it is rigid not like the Smartmodel solution. Rainer and guys can produce a head for you if you wanna have it scale but price is well it is not cheap, nothing in our hobby is .

http://www.hobbyheli.de/Neuer-Rotorkopf

Regarding longer shaft I did order product from RC Aerodyne, will see how it looks when received for the price it shuld be made out of titanium

Take care and wish you nice further Jet Ranger build Don!

Best Regards, Peter
