Default Tail wag?

I was dive bombing myself yesterday-- flying down and fast toward myself then banking away. Sounds more unsafe than it really was. I've been doing a lot of flying toward myself and nose-in hovering. Anyway, I noticed that the heli exhibited some tail wag when it got going really fast. Kinda reminded me of the speed wobbles you'd get on a skateboard when you were a kid. I've also noticed some minor tail wag with backward flight as well. I'm flying a GY520 with an HSG-5084 and the tail holds rock solid other than that little wag. Is this normal or do I need to dial back the gain a bit?

That is pretty normal as most set the gain for hover and piros but as soon as you start doing FFF & FRF you may have to back off the gain a little. Experiment by going as low as you can with the gain until the tail isn't locked but is a little mushy. So now you know the high setting and loose setting. Somewhere in between will be optimum for 3D. So it should be locked and not exhibit any strange behavior for all conditions.

Good Luck, Don

Once you find the 3D and FFF settings, you could change your Gyro Sw from RATE to the FFF setting. Then just flick the Sw when switching form 3D to FFF. RATE is only used now a days to set tail up anyways... right?

Thanks for the suggestions, fellas. I'll start by dialing back the gain and see what happens. I still can't get over how different this heli is since I upgraded the electronics. I can't get enough of it!
