Default Prop size and batteries help

Hi There.
This is my first post here and i hope i am at the right place.
I need advice on what to do.
I am upgrading my 11000mm octocopter x8 and just got new T-motor U5 motors, T-motor 14x4,8 cf props and T-motor flame 80A escs.
I will be using 8s batteries to power it.
I have been thinking about and trying to decide if i should get bigger props like Tmotor 15x5 or 16x5,4 props and 6s batteries.
Do i gain anything if i do this?
I know I will lose some payload but will i get more stable copter or should i just use those 14x4,8 with 8s?
I hope someone can help me. This decision is killing me!
My best
Johannes

Disadvantage with props that big is that you will see more drifting in the wind. Advantage is you will probably get longer flight times if you use the right motors.

If you go to Tiger Motor's website, you'll find very detailed charts with the motor characteristics with various prop sizes and voltages. Just off the top of my head, the 14" props actually sound kind of small for those motors on a bird that size. Even my 'dinky' S800EVO likes 15" props real well. Of course, that's a hex and your's is an octo, something to keep in mind. Also, there's ecalc to help with this. Just google it and you'll find it quickly.

I thing you are right about the drifting when I take closer look. powerstroke01
Bigger propellers bit slower response.

Big Island Guy
I took a look at Tiger Motor's website aU5 is to match with 15 and 16" prop, but in 6S.
They recommend 8s and 14" for better performance. And Ecalc confirms that.

Thank you both for your replay.
I am going to finish this setup with 14" and 8s and see how it goes. And if I am not happy Ill try 15 or 16" with 6s.
Thank you.

Sounds like you've done due diligence then in your research! Let us know how it works out when you get it in the air. Those U series motors sure are nice!

Hi there.
I finally got the time to finish the octo build and ended up doing some more changes then I planed.
The octo is now 1300mm with 5 degree angle on motor arms and dji A2 FC.
TM U5 and flame 80A are so grate with 8s batteries! So stable flight!
Next plan is to go for TM U8 pro on a new build.
I stayd with those 14" props and maybe will go for 15" foldable props sometime.

Regards
Johannes
