Default FeiYu Tech Mini 3D Gimbal

Finally they are taking preorders for FeiYu Tech Mini 3D gimbal. This little gem is a powerfull 3 axis gimbal for under $200 that the beta testers have claimed works much better than a Zenmuse. Definitely is worth looking at

wow it looks nice both aesthetically and technically... Now I just need to upgrade from my old Hero2 to one that will fit it (or my Tarot for that matter!).

Sorry, I just had to post it It's not everyday you come across a gimbal with a magnetic encoder that can be mounted upside down and vertical. I just hope it's not one we will have to fidgit with for hours to get the jello out.

There's a video input cable on the back of the camera mount plate, I wish they would show how it attaches to the Gopro...

The mag sensors are most likely position feedback coils on the butt end of the motor. As in larger servos such as assembly line robots, it allows for precise position calculation. In this case it would confirm where on the shaft the mount is and not allow it to go past preset end points.

Or it could be a Hall Effect system that uses mag sensor transistors. It could either use the magnets in the motors to feed back where it is in relation to position when power is applied, or simply use its own mags placed around the butt of the motor inside the arm housing.

In either case, if indeed they went that route, it's a very precise system. When you tell it to tilt down 15degs, it's going to tilt down 15degs. There's no slop in that setup.

Looks interesting, a bit different from the usual, and very tidy design wise... I'm in the market for a new gimbal so you might have sold another one. :-)

It can mount in what we'd consider upside down and several different ways for that matter.

Curse you , clouseau. Now I got to have one. Any state side dealers yet?

Readymade will probably carry them. That's where I got another 3d gimbal from FeiYu. Very nice quality.

These have been in development for some time, a few people quietly got to run the crap out of them and provide feedback to FeiYu Tech. Unfortunately none of us here was selected as one of those lucky blokes.

This guy was one of those lucky blokes!

Aimdroix's EVO One bird was designed specifically to accommodate the regular FeiYu gimbal without modification. I wonder if their new Blackbird mini quad is likewise for the new mini gimbal?

I was thinking of putting the new FeiYu on my EVO. I have a 3 axis gimbal and control board. I even lengthened the EVO's legs to accommodate the gimbal. I'm thinking that the new gimbal is so neat and tidy and a lot less playing around with BGC software.

That's a good thought Geoff. I actually have an Alware Serengen Lite on Aindroix EVO #1, which I used because it accommodates the FLIR thermal cam so well. I too had to lengthen the legs for that one. The Feiyu I have is the one specified as working on the EVO without any need for mods and I was thinking about using it on EVO #2 which is over at badfrog's for now as we're collaborating on a little project with that one. However, this new Feiyu looks to be a little more sealed and better for what we want. Wallet, meet Feiyu, again!

This gimbal looks a really clean design. I like it! Not certain it has continuous rotation on the pan motor though. If it did, I'd be keen to give it a try.

Pan angle is -120* to +135*, so I took that as it doesn't have a slip ring for continuous rotation.

That's a shame. The only negative point I can see in an otherwise great design. Guess for the cost this could be expected. Think I'll persevere with the x-cam gimbal.

I haven't ever had the need to do a complete 360 degree with a Gopro gimbal as most are forward mounted were you really don't want to look completely backwards and see the rear propellers. I have one true slip ring gimbal system and I see that eventually having a failure because of the electrical connections made up inside the slip ring.

GetFPV has it for $179.99usd. It's hard to find decent reviews on it but this flight video from Tim Green over at RCG is really nice and shows how well it works. Watch the left landing foot in the vid to judge how it's working.

Mine came in last week and went right up on the shelf. Finishing up some open projects then on to the Tarot.
