Default E300 OPTO ESC

Hi Guys, I crashed my F450 and one of the DJI 15A Opto esc burnt out.

It seems the only esc now available are the DJI Mark II 15A.

Can I fit both OPTO and Mark II ESC to the same quad?

They look identical but...?

There is very little info on the MkII. I did find on RCG that a fellow was reporting replacing 2 of the opto's in front of a hex lead to some odd handling.
Could have been a fluke but there may be a radical difference that warrants replacing them all so they all have the same flight characteristics.

But before you go out and replace them post something in the buy, sale, trade section and see if some one has one or a set they want to part with.

I see a bunch of the E300 Opto ESC's on e-bay. I wouldn't mix them if it were me.

That was my first thought too.

DJI got back to me and said that it was fine to mix both on the same quad.

I tried two 8min test flights this weekend and there wasn't any issue. Next I will try FPV on the same quad as I feel a little more confident that it is ok.

A lot of those OPTO esc on ebay are mark II if you ask the seller (they just show the OPTO image)

Well you got it going again and that's what matters.

Glad it worked out for you.

I would have been a tad nervous mixing and matching the ESC's. Thanx for the info and update.

Looks like they changed the shrink tube to black, relabeled to MKII and charged extra for an E300 system component.

Go figure.

The first run ESC's pushed the 2212 motor. The Mk 2's pushed the 2312 motor. Here's another thread from RCG about the difference.

I guess the MKII's are good for either the 2212 or 2312. My E300 kit came w/ the MKII's and 2212 motors.

Especially after just reading the RCGroups thread that is posted above, I still don't think I would mix and match. All white opto's or all MKII's on same bird.Something about keeping all the motors / ESC's the same and balanced seems prudent for stability. But that's just me.

Like mixing different size tires on vehicles. Will it work? Yes.. Is is advisable? No..

My Opto's are black like the Mark II.

It could be that DJI said they were compatible just to get me off their back...

The way I read it is that the opto is only for the 2212 motor, the Mark II is for either the 2212 or 2312.

The 2312 has a slightly higher kV rating so I suppose the Mark II is somewhat beefed up in the current rating.

Assuming the timing is the same between the two ESC types I can't see an issue with mixing now.

Thanks for all the comments.

Default E300 OPTO ESC

Just seen this thread, I'm in the same boat, I've got four E300 Mark II esc's and two E300 Opto esc's. How did yours work in the end? I've sent and email to DJI but I won't hold my breathe for a reply. I still can't find a definitive answer as to wether you can use the two types of esc, they look identical.
