Default Cheapest aluminum booms

Used these knitting needles from Amazon. 3.25 each. In pink. 8mm x 14 inches.

Just cut to length and cut in your 3 slots. Easy. 3 mins with a dremel.

Excellent idea Thick Fog.
My way to cheap booms is a meter length of 5/16 aluminum tubing
for my LHS for a cost of 3.59 cdn. That is 1.20 a boom. Same procedure
as yours gives 3 booms. The down side is, this is soft aluminum tubing.
Your needle is a harder aluminum and more robust. At the time I was
bending booms like a person eating chocolates. Now, not so often.

Yeah i had looked at fluid tubing such as the auto store and wow was it soft.

Plus the 8mm needles are are identical for diameter! Win win.

Also some have mentioned arrow shafts. I could not source for a decent price.

Leave them a little longer and get a little better tail authority. I remember this being done when the 230 first came out, this and arrow shafts.

That's a great idea, can you knit me a jumper before you cut them up!!

I am sure if we are resourceful we could save a lot of money.

MH cnc booms are $13 per pair, and are much stronger than stock. In case anyone cares

Yeah. I bought a bunch a while ago. Still 6.50 each plus shipping.

That's a huge knitting needle. At least align booms are reasonable cost.

Both my 230's have booms made from carbon arrow shafts. Comes out to about 3 dollars a boom.

It appears there are lots of alternatives for this boom. I think that soft may not be a bad thing because if the boom bends in a crash then it won't over stress the frame. I think in the last crash I had the MH boom hit the ground sideways so it cracked the rear of the frame. The boom wasn't even bent but the advantage with this heli being an electric tail is that the boom doesn't have to be perfectly straight as there is no torque tube.

I just buy them locally. The whole point is i don't have to wait on shipping, just break one and back in the air in 30 min. Ive gotten some from wal-mart, and there is another non chain store near me that has them and i live in the middle of freaking nowhere.

Im sure you can find some in OZ there

Ahh. I'd rather order and have them two days later without going to a store. I would never buy just one. I avoid stores at all costs. I hate driving to stores and being in stores.
Last time I was in Walmart looking they didn't have 8mm anyway. That was long ago though..
Online carbon tube is looking $$. I'll stick to this for now unless I come across some cheap arrows.
