If anything, the brushless outrunner tail motor should be much more reliable than the angled mechanical two gearbox shaft drive they tried on the Red Bull 130X. Love the fact they went dual brushless outrunner motors, too. I'll wait after it's released and see if they do a quick price drop like they did for the 180CFX.

With the same servos and AR6335 receiver as the 180CFX.

The new software should allow people to easily convert their 130X and 180CFX to a motorized tail and not deal with tail and TT issues.

Maybe, maybe not. A big plus for me with those two helis was having a true collective pitch tail setup, even with having to eliminate vibes.

A tail motor would never keep up with the high performance of the 180, it would be blowing out left and right. A 230s is what you should be looking at if you need a crash resistant tail

Exactly. That's why I'm thinking it will make a great backyard flyer for scale micro missions. I've always wanted a cool scale Blade micro heli and I almost bought the Red Bull 130X. I actually did buy it, but I returned it without even opening the box after I thought better of it. I had enough problems with the stock 130X tail, but I really wanted that four bladed head and a scale body. If this AH-64 heli is reliable, maybe I can get that four bladed head with a much more reliable tail setup for gentle (compared to 3D) flying in a very cool scale airframe.

True collective tails this small are a headache. If it is possible on the 230S then the power of the 180 shouldn't be an issue.

The 230 is a bit lager and not really in the same category.

Besides it's just an observation, we'll see if any freaks jump on the idea. With all the rest of their line-up updated the mCPX BL is the only model that would compare to this idea and if it gets the SAFE and piro-comp upgrade that the nanoCPS and 230S have than that will be the better option anyway.

I don't know what kind of 3d you fly but I would give up flying micros all together before I went back to a tail motor on a performance heli. The stops and starts always suck, the motors burn out, they always blow out/get weak under load, the tail blades always get loose on the shaft. It's way it's to change the tt on the 180 then deal with all that tail motor crap

Blade hasn't done well with them. The v120d02s is rock solid.

I wonder if 130x compatible batteries will fit this one (some compatible batteries already have the 2 pin jst connector, along with the funny one the 130 uses)

DW, they'll get used to it. Roll their eyes a bit but you'll be fine. Just get them the odd shiny thing, chocolate, flowers that sort of thing, you'll be grand.

Some observations from the photos...The rotor head is DFC and the main blades spin in the scale direction (ccw from above). The tail rotor is also on the scale side of the boom. Nice! I hope this sells well and they eventually add some other scale models of this size. UH-1 and AH-1 would round out the fleet!

I'd wish E-Flite would resurrect the combat modules we used on the F27 Strykers! That was so much fun!!!

Blade already had an UH-1 on a CP flybarred platform

It would be nice to see it again, this time on a CP FBL with SAFE
