Skookum is pretty good about answering questions on their FaceBook Page. FYI, I have received many answers in FB.

Not to hijack this thread or likewise, but I have a question.

I have a New TRex 700 which I installed a Black 720 and GPS1 on.

I was in hold mode at 20ft. After checking the Skookum on my computer, all of a sudden the GPS showed the 700 to be at 900ft, yes, 900ft.

The Helo came straight down, full negative, and fortunately the ground was wet and soft which minimized damage. It damaged my pride big. time.

I put it back together and have not flow it since as I am kinda of scared to do so.

QUESTION: Has anyone ran into a similiar problem? The Helo started jumping up and down app 2ft for 2 seconds, then went full negative down to the ground. Everything proved out before flight. No excessive vibrations detected.

Is the 720 analyzer still available from Skookum? I think it cost, or use to cost around $35.00 or so. It's an invaluable tool.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Dennis

Default Skookum gps

Hi ! Don t waste another dollar on anything related to skookum, the 720 was good at the time , now it is over price and a pain have to deal with vibration all the time, just fly with what you have, the gps 1 and even 2 are good if youíre into fishing ( dead weight) I have 1 of gps1 and 3 of the gps 2 , they are ok if you have laser ( as long as the heli not inverted) . Theyíre not ok to fly around with even you arenít activate them, you can just fly then suddenly the heli will get into a series of pitch pump, it happened to me too many times, lucky for me it never hit the ground , one time I got it out only 1 foot left. No more skookum for me . Also it doesnít has rescue unless you have gps ,and if you can take your heli up to 20 m and put it on hold you donít need self leveling . Look into spirit. Good luck .

What would you recommend in place of Skookum?

I switched to Vbar and like it. I've heard good things about Spirit as well.

To add to this thread, I sold all my GPS units long ago. They are fun to "play" with but were never useful to me. Self Level was all I needed and did well.

Default Spirit fbl

I now have 6 Spirit pro , the service is awesome, you can get an answer within 1 day and it is so smooth.....and the gps coming soon for less than quarter of skookum ( price ). mainly they are constantly improving. Thatís my 2 cents .

My experience with an SK720BE is very solid. I would not hesitate to buy used from a reliable source. The GPS1 not so much. My Logo 600 went bonkers upon hitting the altitude deck and crashed, twice. Now using Spirit on it and the SK720 on my 450Pro, working flawlessly and nice to work with the software.

Dennis, please post the log if you have it, we can check it for you. It's important to see the log data as this might reveal ''something'' outside of the SK / gps system such as a reset, voltage drop etc,,,,

Hi guys,

I have the Sk 720 blue edition, had been flying perfect.

Then a year ago i decided to add GPS 2,

somehow with GPS2 attached the whole set up goes crazy,
and the system does not work. It has enough GPS locks confirmation, but it just does not work,
it appears Skookum has stopped replying to any e mails about GPS2 etc,
does anyone by any chance have a firmware upgrade apart from what was posted on Skookum website,

GPS2 was prices pretty high, and not to get help from Skookum is really sad,

I really donít understand the reasons why Skookum quit supporting their products without further notice.

That is not an attitude we expect from a company commited in delivering top notch services to their customers.

If you come back and look at this thread:
I would highly recommend the MSH Brain 2.
They do not have a Lazer altimeters
They do not have GPS

They do have Rescue
They do have Self Level
They updated the software 4 times last year.
There are no "extra cost" features that need to be unlocked
They support telemetry for Spektrum, Jeti, Futaba
They record up to 11 parameters out of a list of 20 parameters

I sh!t canned all my Skookum stuff 3 years ago and the MSH gyros have never once crashed one of my helicopters.

You don't understand? Really?
It boils down to one, simple word: Drones.

He can make more money building controllers for UAV than he can with RC helicopters

Look at the Lazar altimeters and GPS systems - how many RC helicopters use these kinds of features?

We were the unpaid, unknowing beta-testers for Skookum's UAV controller development program.

Beta testers...you bet!
The evolution of all things continues to change and improve.

Even though they don't call the car you drive, or the airliner you fly on, or the doctor you visit a "beta" version, it and they certainly are, because everything will always be evolving and improving, never staying the same because of us playing the role of beta tester.
Without willing beta testers...nothing changes and that would be a boring worthless life.

Dennis hi, your pics are shown from different logs, not really conclusive as this data is raw and sometimes doesn't always reflect reality.

The log is needed to enable .kml viewing, this will have an accurate account of GPS performance,,,,,,

rameshtahlan, your test flight was a month ago. Tell me it did not end in tears? I have an SK720BE and GPS2 project in mid-flight, and reading all the comments on Skookum support and GPS issues do not bode well...
