[quote=mikef;736048]The BLUE LCD should work fine. It has the same controller and the pins are the same. The Backlight will be a completely separate circuit but all you have to do is connect power to the two pins that control the backlight.[quote]

which two are they? it's working but no back light..

Mine has connections marked A & K

K= Ground and A is +5v via a 22ohm resistor

Anode and Cathode, the back lighting is just an LED.

Why do you need a 22ohm resistor?

Limit the current. an LED is a diode, it has a forward conduction voltage then a very small internal resistance.

Hook up your IR led to the +5V from your processor board and make a common ground connection there too. The sensor is wired to the PIC.

As for the LCD, some of us are finding that grounding pin 3 (instead of power it) will enable your display.

ok so what happens when you ground 3 instead of 5? make 5 live? you are losing me real bad here.... as for the ir and sensor. the board was made from a nother friend of mine... is the ir and sensor , and mem button all wrong? he went from what was on the instructions. the motor and 2.5 k pot work but nada else... very frustrating...and i have also changed project boxes....

In the original design from mikef, on the lcd, pin #3 was wired to +5V along with pin #2. I am saying that some of us working on this project have found that wiring the pin#3 to ground instead of wiring it with +5V has enabled our displays to turn on where as they wouldn't before.

As for the IR led...it's is on it's own circuit with +5V applied to the anode and a resistor then ground applied to the cathode. What I was saying is that you can wire it to your processor board for power and ground. The instructions don't show that but the documentation states that all that is needed to tie all the individual circuits togather is to wire them all to power.

Does that help any?

it somewhat makes sence, but the board that was made for me has everything on it as per the instructions. so i would have to go through everything again to see where everything is goin ... both the maker and i couldnt really tell from the pics where the ir led and sensor were goin on the board along as the mem button. if i could upload a diagram of the board i have you would see what i mean. i compared it to the specs of mikes diagram and it looks dead on but not sure... unless someone wants to email me then i shall send the diagram i have of the board that was made for me...
my email is
[email protected]
thanks guys for the help thus far

ok think i figured this out. maybe... looking at one of the pics in original file . is the mem button on 5and 6 or 7-8....? on the board itself? pink and white wires... also i dont know exactly where the sensor is located but my board following the schematics looks top notch.... another question here... if i neg number 3 on lcd where do i put the +5 live too? and where am i goin to ground too? the existing ground on 1?update... got the ir led goin but no go on sensor or lcd? update again... neg'd number 3 and now i get squares at top of lcd screen? any takers on this?

I don't know what "neg'd" or "neg" means.
You don't put the +5 you took off of pin 3 of the LCD screen anywhere. You cut it off!
You should take a picture of your board. The board layout you posted earlier tells us where you put your parts, not how you connected them together (the more important bit).
