At the moment I'm attempting to fit one of my Swift NX air frames in it - I think it will work with some trimming around the swash and back by the tail pitch slider. Probably need an alternative for the tail pushrod - others have recommended "golden rod" ... I have to go see what that's all about.

If it absolutely doesn't work out I was looking at the 30-year old Shuttle Plus2 EP that's somehow still in production with parts support (unlike my Century Swift NX). It has a really cool clutch for the electric motor And 3 of the 4 servos are up front where I can get at them once in the fuselage ... but it costs more too

I'm in the process of 'test fitting" the air frame without any electronics:

I've got a sorta build blog going on over on RCG: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...%28Game-On-%29 The 'build' has been going on (and off, and on again) since 2014 ...

That looks really good.

I just acquired an A-109 450 size scale fuse. It came with a Blade 400 airframe.
I'm looking forward to the challenges of learning flybar's.

Thank you A Blade 400 in a scale fuselage - I'd like to see that ...

Flybars are easy ... nothin' to them Everything has to be level at mid-stick, swash in the middle of it's travel, etc. Not as bad as they may seem ....

Go here for some pictures:

https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=772199

I've got plenty of parts for the 400, so I think I can get everything set-up.
There's an off chance my 450 DFC will fit in the fuse.
Going to look into this later tonight.

Those pics look great - thanks for posting Good to see the B400 is still alive. Mine's sitting here waiting for nice weather - it's been crashed a couple times but still flies great.

I just ordered 3 sets of servo gears for my 1st 180. Those servos have some slop and I'm thinking that's contributing to the random bobbing the heli does now and then. Has nothing to do with head speed either.

I'm going to tear heli #1 down again, fix/re-solder the bullets on the motor that will break off when I move the ESC to the outside of the frame (like I did on heli #2), and get those new gears installed. She should fly great (again)

Two more weeks till spring !

Changed out one set of servo gears today - found out that a tooth was missing on the final gear!

Also noticed the plastic bushings are almost the exact same size as stock main shaft bearings: 4x7x2 (4mm ID, 7mm OD, 2mm thick). Actually, the bushings are 0.152" dia. while the bearings are 0.156" dia.

We'll see if that missing tooth was contributing to the wobbles ...

... it was the main shaft. Somehow developed an ever-so-slight bend (?)

I'm not sure what was causing your wobbles but my 180 #1 had a medium vibration even after replacing tail shaft from last crash.

I knew it would probably cause the FBL to wack out and crash the heli.

Next was to try replacing main and/or feathering shaft. Did the main shaft... still had vibe. Did feathering shaft... now it's smooth.

The main shaft I pulled might be good so I'll keep it in my "might be good" bag of spares. Overall, the main shafts seem fairly strong.

Tail shafts, I'm not so sure. I did buy the Blade titanium one to try the next time I need to replace one. I'm sure it's lighter but not sure about strength.

It's odd that the main shaft that was in there was slightly bent. It was a brand new shaft put in right after my pool ladder crash and was fine, for a while (?)

I took it out, put it in the chuck of my drill, and what do you know - it has a very slight bend really only visible with the drill running at high speed.

What gave it away on the bench was when I was spinning the main rotor by hand and noticed the swash push rods swaying slightly as the shaft turned.

Like I said it's very odd - the shaft was new and it hasn't been in a crash ... Two test flights in the backyard and the wobbles seem to be gone

I also ordered some replacement servo cases. During the re-gearing of one servo I kept re-breaking the broken tabs that I CA'd about a year ago. I think it's time for a new top cover

(Going to sneak a test flight of my Jet Ranger mechanics over at Fullerton in a few minutes just as soon as the pack finishes charging. Got about an hour before dark ...)

That is very odd if the shaft was new/never crashed.

Hope the Jet Ranger flight was successful!

I'm looking forward to seeing it.

The outdoor season is right around the corner.

FYI, I updated the blog in my signature - added some throttle and pitch curve graphs, corrected some grammar, fixed spelling mistakes, added a video, etc.

Okay, Heli #1 is back to flying like new. 3 things needed attention:
  1. New gears in one roll servo - a tooth was broken.
  2. Replaced main shaft with a 'straight' one.
  3. Added shrink tubing to the tail pitch bellcrank pins.
No more wobbles or bobbing. Even the intermittent stuff is gone, after 4 test flights

Do you have a picture of point 3. Not sure how you did that. Mine are fairly tight already. With heat shrink on them it would come off when I push the pins in...

Sure - here's a quick shot of heat shrink on both pins before I trimmed it. You need pretty small diameter heat shrink to start (like .0625" dia. or less). I ended up removing the shrink from the top pin - just a little on the bottom pin was enough.

Ahhh those pins lol. I thought you meant the pins that hold the blade figure 8 clips on the pitch slider. You meant the pins on the bell crank/ pitch lever.

Also clear now thanks.

Happy Summer Everyone!

Took these guys out for some fun in the sun today, but the older one is still having a little bit of weird bobbing at times - usually when it's compensating for wind. Even after all of the changes I've made so far.

But, today I decided to go in deep and ... Ah-HA! Found something! That little brass sleeve and insert (that are part of the pitch control arm) are now stuck/fused together! This means no matter how loose the retaining bolt is there is always a lot of friction and that buttery-smooth movement is compromised. They weren't always stuck together - this happened over time.

The one on the left is from the newer heli. The center insert slides right out with no effort (must keep this clean and moving freely). The one on the right will not come out at all, and pulled the sleeve with it when I pressed it out. It does not rotate at all inside the sleeve.

Searching through my stash for a different one ...

***

Found one I think I may have solved the mystery She flies much, much better now, even in wind.

-John

Thanks! They're getting re-bound and re-setup with a new DX6. I finally upgraded from DSM2 to DSMX

Now to figure out this telemetry stuff ...

After 190 flights (plus whatever the previous owner logged) my older 180CFX got a new motor transplant today. The old one developed some slop with the bearings & shaft - the bell housing had extra play and was having some strange resistance in certain locations as it rotated. Drive train without the motor installed still smooth as silk.

New motor is performing great. Also picked up two new Talon15s for $11 each
