The left gear is from a tip over during spool-up at about 50% throttle.
The middle gear is from a fall from 10ft with throttle hold on.
The right gear is after flying into a wooden fence with TH on. It has split - I pulled it a bit with pliers to see if it would snap, but it didn't.

Nothing else broke, just the main gear hub. All teeth are perfect. Nothing else on the heli is broken.

Waiting for some v1 gears to arrive to perform the same tests.
Note to self.....Do not do all 3 tests on own heli

I would go with what Liduno says for why these gears may be breaking..

On another note, boiling for 20 minutes may help.
An Aluminum collar around the outside of the stub may stop this from happening.
Are you really cinching down on the screw and the nut causing a crush effect?

I missed that he said ''deliberate crashes''!!

Joe don't crash on purpose..lol You'll have enough crashes the natural way

I didn't think to ask, are you in a really cold area? Maybe the gears are brittle from the cold?

Well, it looks like the main gear bolt is snapping and taking out the hub. The main shaft bolt hole is also distorted a small amount during a crash.

So, I sat down with my poor cad skills and designed a hub for old main gears.

It survived the 3 deliberate crash tests, and 3 more before breaking.
It costs 0.03 to make so I'll make up a few spares for the field box.

Yeah, I'm not understanding the method to the madness myself. I'm sure there's one.

I still have the original main gear on my V1, I know close to 110 flights. I have replaced the main gear on V2 twice after 75 flights ? won't lie, my V1 just flies better than my V2

I have bought longer bolts for the main gear so I screw the blt through and add a nyloc nut. The nut only need to be pinched up a tad. I do the same on the head so there is no tendency for the gear and head to turn slightly on the shaft.

Yep here in the UK I think it is MIRA (motor institute research association). Sort of the crash test dummy brigade. I've never deliberately crashed any of my models. Its frequent enough unintentionally.

Don't we all wish we were good enough that the only way to experience a crash was to do it on purpose!

I crashed deliberately so it would be a fair test with v1 and v2 main gears.

It looks like the main shaft is distorting at the bolt hole. The bolt is snapping and taking out the hub at the same time.

I can't see how to resolve this. New main shafts did the exact same thing.

It's like the holes are drilled too big in the shaft.

I finally got the parts to get away from the stock orange colors and went with a mostly white theme my 230.

I've owned a Trex 450 and 500 in the past. Spent ridiculous amounts of money on both. Maybe another one, some day. I'm gonna stick with this 230 for a while

Thanks for the compliment.

Ran six packs through two of them before the wind picked up. Not real bad, just unpredictable gusts.

Finally, after weeks of waiting for a windless, rainless weekend day, I couldn't wait any longer. I took my new 230s V2 to the local school yard and maidened her in 5-10 mph winds. I only had 3 batteries charged and found myself wishing I had charged a few more. This heli is sweet! Takeoff and landing in normal was perfect, no tilting, no bad tendancies. I hovered through the first battery taking off in normal and switching to IU in tail in, side and nose in orientations. Blade certainly got this one right! I love it! It's been awhile, was traveling on business too much over the last year, almost no time to get to the flying field. Now I have something I can fly close by and get my thumbs back!

You know i love the way the 230S flys. But it's ugly, and like most RC Helicopters, it doesen't look like a Helicopter at all. So, i needet a break from that black gear too...and from that colors...and that shape...
Well, i got me a couple of color spray cans, and some other parts, and...yeah. Finished today, mounted the HOT rocket launchers.
