Yeah - I ought to say that I have no experience of it, it just seems to fit the spec of the other motors that people were suggesting and certainly fits my budget better

DoubleCH, you actually going to buy a new heli? That's awesome! Cant wait to see your "I put 4,000 flights on this Protos 380" thread, LOL.

Heli ------------Protos 380 (Red)
FBL-------------MSH Brain 2 or eznov neuron?
Motor----------RotorStar 2820-890
ESC------------Hobbywing 60 v4 or yep 60a?
Servos---------BMS-21 HV (from qube)
Tail--------------MKS 93i HV (from qube)
Batteries ------6s Nanotechs
RX --------------FrSky XSR (from qube)
Blades----------Zeal or SAB?

Still trying to decide on a few things. Kind of want to go budget and see how cheap and how light I can make it. Sell off the qube and whatever I'm not using.

Yep 60 is a great esc but a bummer only a 5.5v bec and looks like you run hv servos.

Zeal blades ftw on this size Heli

Haha, you know me... half correct though. If I can find like $15 CF blades for the P380 (like I did $20 CF blades for my stretched P500) then P380 will be a good contender for my next heli.

That's not what I'd worry about. Power three KST 215 or similar from it and load them up, and the voltage drops a crazy amount (YGE60). The cheap Turnigy BECs are better I think.

Jesus. Those guys even ripped off the shape of the SAB380 blades. Shameless.

If anybody else is interested, I just found out about new servos from KST that would be perfect for the new Protos.
Coreless, Hall Effect sensor servos.
MS325 for cyclic and MS565 for the tail.

I will use my DS215 v2 servos I pulled from my Mini P for now with a likely upgrade later but I well get the MS565 for the tail right off the bat since I need to get a tail servo anyway.

No more jittery servo from worn out "pot" (i.e. potentiometer)?

I don't see much posted in the way of the xnova tareq motor which I had in my goblin 380. That motor was phenomenal powerful and cool running and good flight time. Is this a bad idea for the protos ?

That's one benefit😊. Another benefit I can think of is more precision.

I think OTS said in another thread it was just way overkill.

edit: found it:

I had the Tareq motor waiting for this heli but once I heard ots mentioned it may or may not fit and being over kill I quickly ordered the xts xnova 2820 890 and sold the Tareq one.

As the guys mentioned, at 250g lighter it's just well past diminishing returns. I've spent time looking at the miniBrain2 governor log graphs and the 2820 890 is giving me bullet proof performance even with ham fisted tic tocs, and all heavy collective maneuvers. If you already have it, use it. But it's adding some weight and cost. Not a big deal since it's already a very light model.
