Question Custom momentary Switch for Dx6i (Blade 230s)

Hey folks

For us Dx6i - 230s users is it possible to fix a good quality momentary switch similar to the one on the Dx6?

The reason to do this is because I've noticed personally its hard for me to flick the ELEV D/R switch on the fly to apply PANIC and then flick it back instantaneously.

I'd rather have a momentary switch on the right (Cyclic) side just above or next to the RUDD D/R switch so that I can manage collective and let go of the cyclic.

I feel I'd have better control with my left hand focusing on the collective while I use my right fore finger to press the switch.

First of all is it possible to route the wires from the ELEV D/R and get it working with a momentary switch??

Thanks
Jake

I just got another idea.

Since the trainer switch is a momentary one, would it be possible to swap the ELEV D/R with the trainer. So that I now have the trainer switch as the ELEV D/D and the ELEV D/R switch as the trainer switch

I think you can use a mix and have the trainer do a valve on a channel. all depends on how you have it set up. I used 2 switches and turn it into a 3 pos switch. just had to set the PWM to a value through a mix

Correct me if im wrong. I have set up the 230s according to the manual for the dx6i.
Mix 1 has already been assigned to turn STABILITY mode on and off. I have it set to 1 so STABILITY is always off.

Ive done assigned this to work on the GYRO/FLAP according to the manual.

Can i create a new Mix 2 and experiment with this Trainer Sw?

Im at work, will have to check it when i get home.

I've attached some pics of Mix 1 and Mix 2.

Mix 1 as you can see has ELEV D/R assigned to activate PANIC. I can't change this to the trainer switch (It doesn't have the option) however it does come up with the other ones.

Mix 2 is just blank.

Is there a way to check the firmware version i currently have ?

I can't assign mixes to the trainer switch on my dx6i either.
I really wish I could for the same reason.
I basically dont use bailout...if anything I just flip my gyro switch into stability for a moment or two.

Brings me to the conclusion that I can't assign a Mix to the trainer SW.

Would i do more damage than good by physically swapping out the switches as i described earlier?
Putting the ELEV D/R switch in place of the trainer & the trainer SW in the ELEV D/R's place.

Your other option would be to bridge them. Of course then you'll be stuck with that for all your models unless you use a connector you could pull apart inside.

The Blade 230s is the only model I currently fly with the dx6i. The other 2 banks i have RF7 and Phoenix settings stored.

Plus i use the Throttle Cut button for my timer. I don't think i really need to bridge.

If i did go ahead with my plan would it work ?

For e.g would i blow up a capacitor or microchip if i happen to get the polarities wrong on either of the switches while testing?

You should be fine

Always remove the batteries before taking the back off your TX

According to the image below that I found on the net, the ELV D/R switch just has 2 wires, it would just be a case of wiring a push button with these 2 wires

If you get it wrong...
- open circuit - the switch won't work
- short circuit - the switch will be on all of the time

Hi toys2cars2toys,

Thanks for reassuring me that all will go well I am quite familiar with the insides of the dx6i as i recently installed a back light.

My original plan was to swap the elev d/r & trainer switch and re solder both the 4 wires.

So that now,

I had the trainer switch (momentary) where the elev d/r use to be and the elev d/r switch in position where the trainer used to be.

Swapping the switches but not their functions. Does that make sense?

Going to take the move this weekend. Will analyze my DX6i tonight after work & purchase 2 types of switches (Push button and a tiny momentary toggle)

Depending what feels better to me will install it. Might even drill a hole if necessary and fit the tiny toggle somewhere where I can have one of my fingers ready on. I feel this is going to be very important to me in order to keep the 230s from crashing less.
A super quick flick of the PANIC can save me a lot of unnecessary crashing

Its just a matter of me getting used to how she handles/flies. I'm quite intermediate with my 3D orientations inverted etc.

Lets see how we do...This is exciting

Excellent, good luck

I have mine on the left shoulder, opposite from throttle hold
There's nothing to stop you undoing the switches and shuffling them around to suit you

If you're going to drill a hole, how about on the back grip, near your fingers?
Though it might get knocked in transport

Cheers

I will position my fingers on the tx while simming pretending to fly and determine what's best. I could do the rubber grip area, lets see.
Will post some pics up once done.

Just purchased a good quality push button today. It fits just right in the already drilled hole of the trainer toggle. Will be working on it tomorrow and hopefully get it fixed up

I feel its going to help a lot in those quick fraction of a second trying to save the 230s better than flipping a hard ELEV D/R switch.
