Default Battery advise?

Hi guys!

Recently got my first K110, must say a big thank you to all who recommended it! It's not perfect, no heli is. But it for sure is a BIG step forward for such a small micro!

Size wise it's a mCPX, so much easier to work on than a Nano. And sensible & quite crash proof too. Parts are dirt cheap which is a big plus! Perfect trainer and bring anywhere heli for me!

Now then... batteries. I got the stock ones that are 450 mAh 25C and these 520 mAh 30C:
http://www.banggood.com/X6A-A08-6-IN...-p-992867.html

Both work fine, and they might come more to life after more cycles. But it see for both that it has very good HS at first, then noticeably drop in HS for the rest of the flight. The stock ones seem a bit more powerful to me. I run 100% HS.

Any recommendations?

I got those same batteries but am waiting on my K110. It's close by in shipping so should be here by tomorrow. I used one of those Goo batteries on my 120S with an adapter cable and it only lasted 3 minutes. I too hope it will come back with some cycles or the others aren't the same.

I have some 600maH batteries for the 120S that have been very good so far. The brand is nano tech. If the Goo batteries don't work out I will most likely get some more of those and run them on the K110 also with an adapter cable. The 120S uses the same battery as the K110 but it just has a different connection.

BTW there is a new sub-forum just for theV977/K110/K120
https://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=463

I'll watch your thread today at work and see what others chime in with.

Thx!

Wait a minute... I still have batteries lying around from my B/L modded mCPX days.. those are 1S 550mAh Hyperions - they were MUCH better than those NanoTech batteries. I should try those of course!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hyperion-G3-...UAAOSwWTRW01qs

Not sure how well they'd fit though, as they are slimmer (and taller?)...

And an adapter connector is needed. I think it's "JST" on the Hyperion. Does the connector for the K110 have a name?

Dunno what it is.. I just used stuff from my pile-o-heli parts bin to solder one up. My LHS has a big box of stuff like that and you can take whatever you want if they know you as a customer. I've helped myself a few times to theirs.

Not saying the nano tech are the best battery or anything it's just what I had and they do last longer than the original e-flite one. The 120S batteries are the same approx. dimensions. It'll be interesting to see how they work in the K110.

From your sig I can see you've been in this MUCH longer and probably have more experience than a 3 month newbie like myself.

They're ok but power wise they were defo inferior to the Hyperions (like the E-Flites)

For my Nano the myLipo batts are defo the best there is. If they have something in this size then that'd be a good option as well. Not dirt cheap though.

Not sure what the dimensions are on those, but longer is not an issue as long as they are not too wide or thick.

Given the light weight of the K110, I would just replace the stock connector with a JST plug, rather than adding an adapter.

I posted some comparison pictures in the forum. Right now I want to just go out and run through all the rest of my batteries as I'm home and just flew her twice. What fun !!

I'll check fit later.

Agreed, just wanted to test first

OK, here's a comparison. The figures are thickness in mm. As you can see the footprints are very similar, so no problem there.

Here you can visually see the thickness of the stock battery vs a Hyperion:

The Hyperions fit nicely into the battery holder:

These should be a killer battery for these. I'll let you know how they perform compared to the stock battery.

The Nano-Techs are on the thick side, and would not enter the second part of the battery holder. Maybe you could cram them in there, but I guess that would make it too lose for the stock battery. But I guess it's doable...

I happen to have a couple Hyperions lying around...

I forgot to weigh them - I'll check later...

Thanks for all the detailed information and pictures
I added the JST connector to my K110 today at work. Now I have both.

Default JST connector added

Tried to save as much weight as possible. Soldered the JST onto the existing wires and sealed it with Bondic so I don't risk a short. Very cool glue system btw - cures in a couple of secs with infrared light!

I cut of a little of the JST connector in order to reach the tabs.

So let's see what the Hyperions can do... mind you mine are from 2014, which is not the best starting point...

Way to void your warranty too J/K I'm sure many many more will be doing the same in one way or another. I just soldered mine with wires to the same point as the original connector on the PCB and figure if one goes bad I can use the other until I fix it.

I don't know if they make these anymore but this is great for in the field solder repairs. It has an LED light and runs on 4 AA batteries.

Let us know what you get for flight times. I only have the nano tech 600maH and get several more minutes. But then I don't do smack 3D.

Default Test

Flew 3 packs back to back: Stock - GOO - Hyperion

There is hardly any difference in performance. The stock battery is light and powerful, very good bet.

The GOO is good too, maybe a bit less powerful. But it's early in the cycles yet, so they might improve.

The old Hyperions were good - even power the whole flight.

But again, they are very similar. I think the stock battery may be the best option given performance, price, weight and connector.

I have one stock and 5 Goo. All with about the same number of flights and the stock battery is losing power whereas the Goo's are still going strong.

I have also flown my K110 with Syma 680mAh batteries. They are more square and a tray adapter is necessary. I rigged one up. The connector is the same as it comes with. There is a picture of that in another thread.
