Default Who needs tail gears?

Hey guys,

I've been poking in and out of the forum and noticing many of you need gears. I just reached out to James to see if he can get Horizon to order some more.

To help make his case, please reply and let us know how many you'd like (the more the better).

Understand, there's no guarantee that Horizon will order them, but if they see this, it'll make the case stronger to do so.

M

Would be cool, but I doubt they would be strong enough to handle the rigors of flight.

I've yet to see 3D printing that would be smooth enough for gears, it's not as good as you think it is.

I have 1 good set on my 700x and 1 spare set.
Here's my question for the rest of you. What good is having an extra set of tail gears when they're out of other spares as well? I had to resort to eBay for a tail fin for my crash at IRCHA this year which was caused by............. Stripped tail gears in flight!
In most cases, stripped tail gears are going to cause some kind of crash/rough landing and break other parts. Because if this, my 700x is now retired and kept for sentimental value (my first big helicopter). Now all I'm debating is to pull all the electronics off of it an move them to another airframe or just try to nab a good deal on a newer complete 700 in the classifieds.

Historically my tail gear was the most common part I needed to replace on my 700X.

I've got replacements for all the other pieces, and want to keep her flying as long as possible-- and not just an ornament in my garage.

Also-- if you ever need another tail fin, I actually just 3D print them now. I can send you one for $2+postage.

Technically it was a 'CFX' out of the box.

I never had a 700x But I have emailed Horizon a couple of times suggesting that they should make another batch of out of the stock parts for the 700x since
It was their flagship
It is not $200.00 heli
How are they going to sell the remaining parts if you cant fly, because of no tail gears.
It would be a great PR move in taking care of customers.

I wish I saved the email responses I got back from Horizon but I was along the line of The Pro Series were discontinued because of the focus on new models.
Yes, I realize there is a retraction in the RC heli business and they saw it coming and decided to cut their losses. But on a model in this price range they should have parts support a little longer.

As others have suggested, we could also put an entirely different TT tail on our 700X (maybe from an Align). Anyone know of any drop in replacements?

Mikel, I have a pair of spares for each gear in the system but would definitely order another set of each. I dropped a couple complaint emails to HH about the gears, never heard back. There is a company that will reverse engineer the gears, but I never requested a quote. Mine have been holding up good, but I verify the backlash regularly and use DryFluid gear lube.

I need some tail gears as well. Would be great if Brian could make it happen. It's not like they would be doing us a favor. As far as I'm concerned they owe it to us. It wasn't long ago (18 months maybe) they were assuring us that parts would be available for a long time....sure enough now that I finally need something it can't be found.
