There were several determining factors in the purchase of my simple brushed rotor toy. First and foremost, it is a toy (at least it is in my opinion). The X8 is basically the big brother to the X5, which is definitely a light toy.

Another reason for choosing the X8 is extremely cheap, yet can be modified to carry almost the same payload as a Phantom.

Upon reading the FAA guidelines my quad is listed as one that should be registered. Why does a toy need registration? This thing does not have GPS, and if you go past line of sight you can consider it lost. It cannot return to home.

Yes, I have read the rules. They seem to be broad in regard to the spectrum of toys covered.

I grew up flying RC planes and helos. My dad and myself would visit one of the small air strips in our area and enjoy the day. There was never a need for registration.

I'm not debating the law in place. I am simply trying to better understand the FAA's purpose in asking hobbyists and those with toys to register.
