You guys are pretty smart - even guessed the pic without even seeing it! (shout out to 3D Dave for hitting it on the head)

The picture is of the tooling "plug" (the positive shape) for the VTX107 tail blade. There's another just like it for the other blade skin, as they're mirrors of each other.

This is a symmetrical blade. I'll be studying asymmetrical blade sections soon (as mentioned earlier).

... and *hopefully* the pic link is fixed now. Seems the link to that one somehow changed which broke it.

VTX, just a thought on the asymetrical tail blades...

Keep in mind that most well designed heli's have some pitch dialed in on the tailblades with the servo arm and tail slider at 90 degrees.

So if you where to mount asymetrical tailblades on such a tail system the servo arm will not be at 90 when doing a hover, making the pitch respons less lineair for the FBL system.

Hopes this makes sense to you.

Mverhorst - yes I do understand that thanks for pointing it out.

The effect of camber is essentially that it will shift the maximum and minimum lift coefficient end points - without affecting the lift curve slope either side of the zero lift AOA.

So as long as we don't add too much camber, there will be no change in lift response either side of the zero lift pitch angle. And the zero lift pitch angle will only change slightly (less than 5 degrees) which is easily dialed out in the pitch slider linkage. So there would be no change to the FBL at all.

The BIG difference would be the tail would have substantially more thrust capability in one direction, while the opposite direction would have reduced max thrust capability. There would be no noticeable difference to the pilot other than the tail would have equal capability in L and R maneuvers. I'm working on an analysis of that now.

Time line: no idea. Still working on prototype blade #1.

Bill.

I'd be very curious how asymmetrical blades work in practice and if there would need to be FBL trickledown because of it.

My guess is that some systems would adapt better than others and most people would need to modify their tail settings quite a bit even with the symmetrical blades.

Hey there Mark!

Could you explain what the meaning of "FBL trickledown" is? I haven't heard that term before ... thanks.
